Pontecasale combines Italian architectural history with rural landscapes and local events. Historic architecture, paths through cultivated and wooded areas, seasonal walks and the history of silkworm breeding give the place several specific points of access. In addition, there is a broader regional setting in which cultural and landscape forms appear in very different manifestations.

Architecture and History in Pontecasale

A prominent architectural testament is Villa Garzoni. It was built in the second quarter of the 16th century according to a design by Jacopo Sansovino for the non-noble branch of the Garzoni family. An impressive surrounding wall encloses the main building, the stables and the grounds. A small chapel at the villa preserves stucco work designed by Jacopo Sansovino. The building, enclosure and chapel thus convey several interconnected facets of the same historic site.

The Church of San Leonardo completes this picture. It was rebuilt in 1575. The fifth stage of the Cammino di Adelaide begins at the church. The route follows Via Viona to a bridge and continues to the Capitello di San Antonio.

Paths through Fields, Vineyards and Forests

A historic walk from Pontecasale to Villa Renier passes through cultivated fields, vineyards and forests. This sequence makes the rural surroundings perceptible not merely as a tranquil backdrop, but as a changing landscape. Fields, vineyards and forests alternate along the route between Pontecasale and Villa Renier.

In spring, the historic “Camminata a 6 zampe” walk through the green landscape of the Borgo takes place in Pontecasale every year. Another annual walk, the “Passeggiata sotto le Stelle”, is held during the Sagra del Carmine. The Sagra del Carmine takes place in Pontecasale in July.

Cultural and Landscape Forms in the Wider Surrounding Area

The wider regional surroundings of Pontecasale include Castello di San Pelagio, a castle; Museo dell'Aria, a museum; and Castello del Catajo, a castle.

Also located in the wider regional surroundings are Villa Castello Miari de Cumani, a palace; Spiaggia di Sottomarina, a beach; Monte Venda, a mountain; and Arco Vallaresso, a natural arch. The range therefore extends from built cultural heritage through coastal landscapes and mountains to a natural formation.

Chiostro del Generale is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Pontecasale and is a garden. Together with the castles, museum, palace, beach, mountain and natural arch, this regional setting expands the selection to include different cultural and landscape themes.

Casa del Baco and Traditional Silkworm Breeding

Casa del Baco presents another facet of rural history. In a pre-Napoleonic rural building, the site hosts a permanent exhibition on traditional silkworm breeding and processing. The Casa del Baco exhibition was scheduled to open annually from April to September.
