Market Tradition as Part of the Town’s Character

If you would like to explore Pieve di Soligo, a significant part of its history can be traced through the weekly market. It was recognized and regulated by the Serenissima in 1638. Today, the market takes place on Saturdays; it was interrupted during the World Wars. In 2019, the Veneto Region recognized it as a “Mercato Storico”. This places a market at the center whose history dates back to the 17th century and whose current schedule is clearly established.

Crafts, Churches and Historical Testimonies

The town’s churches also reach far back into the past: There is evidence of the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maddalena dating back to 1354. In the hamlet of Solighetto, Il maglio di Pradella recalls another aspect of the town’s history. Today, the site is a monument to proto-industrial archaeology; formerly, it was used for iron processing and the production of agricultural tools.

On Solighetto’s square stands the Chiesa di Sant’Andrea, a 19th-century church. It is dedicated to Saint Andrew and the Immaculate Conception and was enriched by artworks by Marco Casagrande and Giovanni De Min.

River Landscape and Paths

Le Crode del Pedrè give the landscape a distinctive geological form. They are monumental conglomerate formations around which the Lierza stream has created small pools and cascades. The Via dei Troi offers another perspective: The short, charming path leads from the Chiesa di Solighetto to Pieve di Soligo, runs along the river and passes through a landscape with wide views and dense spontaneous riverside vegetation.

Several mountains are also located around the town. Col Maor is in the immediate vicinity of Pieve di Soligo. Croda della Spia, Monte Moncader and Mondragon are mountains in the surrounding area. For your planning, the town’s history, river landscape and mountain destinations can therefore be considered as different focal points, without conflating them into a single excursion destination.

Several castles and historic sites are located around Pieve di Soligo: Torri di Credazzo and Castello San Salvatore are castles, while Castello di Collalto is a castle ruin. The Museo dell’Uomo is also located in the surrounding area. A culinary tradition is the Sagra dello Spiedo Gigante in Pieve di Soligo. It goes back to an idea developed in 1956 for a giant poultry skewer in the square and is celebrated in October.
