Refrontolo between Mill Culture and Hilly Landscapes

Refrontolo combines mill culture, trails through gentle hills, scenic views and wine events. Molinetto della Croda and Tempietto Spada provide contrasting focal points; the parish church and Villa Spada add to the view of the town’s history.

Experience Molinetto della Croda

The outdoor area in front of the waterfall and Molinetto della Croda are freely accessible year-round. In addition, the outdoor area and the ground floor of Molinetto della Croda are freely accessible to everyone. The mill houses exhibitions and art exhibitions of various kinds. A small museum explains the history and operating techniques of water mills. Visitors can watch a demonstration in which the Molinetto grinds cornmeal; on special occasions, the wheel and millstone are also operated. From March to the end of October, equipped outdoor areas are available for picnics. Allow 30 to 60 minutes for a visit to Molinetto della Croda. For group visits, telephone reservations with the arrival date, arrival time and number of visitors are required.

Trails, Stream Landscapes and Natural Attractions

Refrontolo has a network of trails that lead through gentle hills to old mills, former lignite mines and karst caves. Along the Crevada stream, there are impressive rocky gorges. A nature trail also runs near the waterfall at Molinetto della Croda. This gives the town points of connection for walks, landscape observation and exploring the various traces of the area’s history of local use.

Tempietto Spada and Villa Spada

A footpath leads from Refrontolo’s piazza to Tempietto Spada. The building was erected around 1884 and rebuilt in 1992. The Tempietto is located at an exceptional viewpoint with a 360-degree view over the Quartier dei Piave and Felettano. It is dedicated to Madonna del Carmelo. Construction of Villa Spada began in the second half of the 17th century and was completed in the late 19th century; at that time, the villa passed to the Spada family.

Parish Church and Bell Tower

The parish church in Refrontolo has been documented since the 11th century. Originally, it was a chapel dependent on the Pieve di San Pietro di Feletto, before being rebuilt in the second half of the 15th century and becoming the parish church. The bell tower dates from 1613.

Wine as a Seasonal Highlight

Between the end of April and the beginning of May, the Mostra del vino Prosecco e Refrontolo Passito D.O.C. takes place. The annual wine exhibition is held on the ground floor of the Barchessa of Villa Spada and also includes the outside portico. These dates give a stay a seasonal connection to Refrontolo’s wine culture.
