Cavaso del Tomba lies on the southern slope of the spur extending from Monte Grappa towards the Piave. Standing 868 metres high, Monte Tomba offers 360-degree views of the peaks of the Feltrino area, the Veneto plain, the hills of Asolo and the Piave.

Monte Tomba and the landscape

The central area of the municipality of Cavaso del Tomba almost entirely coincides with the SIC and ZPS areas of the Monte Grappa massif. These areas contain natural and near-natural habitats on land and in the water. The area around Monte Tomba can be explored on walks through a largely natural environment.

Hiking trails to Castel Cesil

Hiking trail 211 on Monte Grappa leads from Cavaso del Tomba to Castel Cesil. The CAI 212 hiking trail, which starts at the church in Caniezza in Cavaso del Tomba, joins the Monte Tomba–Cima della Mandria route. The nearby trenches of Castel Cesil can be reached on foot via the CAI 212 hiking trail from Cavaso del Tomba.

Churches and castle ruins in Castelcies

The Chiesa Alpina on Monte Tomba was consecrated in memory of the Italian and French soldiers who fell on Monte Tomba in 1917–18. A movable wall in the lower part of the façade connects the sacred space with the landscape. The Pieve della Visitazione della Beata Vergine Maria preserves remarkable paintings. The Church of San Martino in Castelcies dates from the 11th century. The Castelcies complex also includes the recently restored medieval Chapel of San Martino.

The remains of Castelcies Castle were uncovered through more recent archaeological excavations and subsequently consolidated by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Ambientali e Architettonici del Veneto Orientale. The remains are visible on the rounded hilltop a few dozen metres west of the church.

Historic villas and culinary delights at Villa Premoli

Villa Premoli dates from the 17th century. The wall surrounding the “Le Cioere” orchard at Villa Premoli can be visited via a freely accessible route; regular opening hours are on the first Monday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and visits are also possible by appointment. With advance reservation, Villa Premoli offers cellar tastings of its organically produced Prosecco for up to 40 people. Visitors can also reserve local dishes paired with organic Asolo Prosecco DOCG Brut in advance, even if they are not staying there.

More cultural sites and Arte e Natura

Villa Bianchi dates from the 18th century and was designed in the Palladian style. San Giorgio on Colle della Bastia dates from the 15th century. During the annual “Arte e Natura” event, Castelcies, Bocca di Serra and Costalunga become an open-air museum.
