Sant'Alberto: Church, Art and Trails

Church, Altar and Paintings

The Church of Sant'Alberto Vescovo e Martire in Sant'Alberto (Zero Branco) is dedicated to Saint Albert, Bishop and Martyr. It was rebuilt and reconsecrated in 1621, and reconsecrated again in 1883 in honour of Saint Alberto. The church also contains the painting “Madonna del Rosario e i Santi Rocco, Sebastiano, Lorenzo e Domenico di Guzman” by Bartolomeo Orioli (1567–1629). The Oratorio di San Girolamo and Maddalena Volpato

The Oratorio di San Girolamo was built by the Borsa family between 1747 and 1757. It was recently restored and contains a marble altar dedicated to Saint Jerome, with an altarpiece depicting the Madonna and Child with Saints. The chapel dedicated to Saint Jerome stands not far from the birthplace of Maddalena Volpato in Sant'Alberto.

Maddalena Volpato was born in Sant'Alberto on 24 July 1918. A short tour of her roots begins at her former rural birthplace in Bertoneria, now no longer in use, a locality in the municipality of Zero Branco about three kilometres from the centre of the Sant'Alberto hamlet. It ends at the cemetery of Sant'Alberto, where her remains have rested since November 1972. This biographical connection adds a personal story of the place to the sacred sites.

Summer Festival and Venetian Cuisine

The Sagra Paesana di Sant'Alberto is an annual summer festival in the Sant'Alberto hamlet of Zero Branco, in the Marca Trevigiana. The Sagra includes a food stall open every evening, serving traditional dishes from Veneto. Alongside church art and local history, regional cuisine therefore also takes centre stage. At the “4 passi par pair” event in Sant'Alberto, the route ran along the banks of the Zero and the Rio Vernise, through cultivated fields and the Montiron Oasis; the Green way was also included. There were three route options of 5, 8 and 12 kilometres. The event was open to everyone, including families with pushchairs, wheelchair users and people with dogs on leads. The different route lengths allowed participants to flexibly plan their preferred distance within the same event.
