Volpago del Montello: Culture, Wine and Landscape

Architecture and Commemorative Heritage

The Santa Maria della Vittoria complex, with its bell tower and church square, is regarded as an example of 20th-century architecture. The foundation stone of the church was laid in 1934, and it was completed the following year. The 20th-century building was designed by architect Fausto Scudo. By episcopal decree of 7 October 1949, Santa Maria della Vittoria was elevated to the status of a Marian shrine.

Another prominent site is the Arco monumentale ai caduti della Grande Guerra. The 20-metre-high triumphal arch is made of Montello conglomerate and was designed by Venetian architect Domenico Rupolo. Inside, two memorial plaques bear the names of 40 soldiers who died in the First World War.

Villa Gasparini Loredan is located in Venegazzù, a district of Volpago del Montello, and is significant from both a historical and cultural perspective. Around 1770, Marcantonio Spineda de’ Cattaneis commissioned it from architect Giovanni Miazzi. The complex consists of a central Palladian main building, two side barchesse and an adjoining aristocratic chapel.

Ca’ Bressa also combines architectural history with present-day use. The 15th-century complex is located on Via S. Carlo, an old connecting route between Bosco Montello and Treviso. Extensive fragments of 14th-century interior frescoes were uncovered during restoration work completed in 2021. Today, Ca’ Bressa is used as a public library.

Wine and Montello Products

Barchessa Loredan is a historic 15th-century building in Selva. Guided tours of the vineyards and wine cellar are available by reservation, including a tasting of the wines produced there. Agriturismo Basei offers a broader insight into local products, with cured meats, jams, baked goods and wines produced and sold on site.

Experiences for Families and Curious Visitors

At the “La Casa delle Api” exhibition, visitors can see a natural bee colony live and learn about its social organisation. Since 2017, the “Casa del profumo dell’alveare” has allowed visitors to experience the characteristic scent of a bee colony. You can also observe the queen and dancing bees up close in the honeycomb.

Nino il Contadino offers children direct contact with nature and farm animals, as well as educational workshops. I Frutti del Montello is one of the educational farms in the Veneto region and welcomes schools as well as adult and children’s groups. Extra virgin olive oil, Montello potatoes, honey and stone-ground soft-wheat flour are produced there. The experiences on offer are connected with the region and the products made there.
