Marchesino between Church Art and Local History

Marchesino combines religious art with museums, palaces and natural arches in its surrounding area. The town’s churches preserve several paintings with specific artist attributions. As a result, alongside the town’s name there is an ecclesiastical collection comprising various works.

The Church of Santissimo Redentore preserves a “Presentazione di Gesù al tempio,” attributed to the painter Nicola Marcola. The Italian title means “Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.”

The new church of Marchesino, built in 1971, received paintings from the church in Bovo. The two depictions of the Annunciation are displayed there alongside the paintings transferred from Bovo. The church also received an “Annunciazione” by Sante Prunati and another “Annunciazione” by Simone Brentana. Annunciazione means Annunciation; the two additional works are attributed to different painters but belong to the same church building.

The church of Marchesino also preserves the painting “Madonna col Bambino in gloria e i santi Bovo e Bartolomeo,” attributed to Ruggero Loredano. In the same church, the painting “San Carlo Borromeo comunica gli appestati” is attributed to Chiarelli. Ruggero Loredano lived from 1536 to 1609, Sante Prunati from 1652 to 1728, Simone Brentana from 1656 to 1742, and Nicola Marcola from 1740 to 1793.

Museums, Palaces and Natural Arches in the Surrounding Area

The Museo della Radio d'Epoca is located in the area surrounding Marchesino. The Museo degli Affreschi ‘G.B. Cavalcaselle‘ alla tomba di Giulietta and the Palazzo Barbieri are also located there. The Palazzo della Gran Guardia museum is likewise situated in the area surrounding Marchesino. Thus, the surrounding area includes three museums and one palace.

The natural arches in the area surrounding Marchesino include Porta Nuova, Porta Palio, Porta Vescovo and Porta Leoni. Alongside the museums and the palace, they form a landscape-related area of interest in the surrounding area.

Magnano and Regional Connections

In nearby Magnano, the old filial church Chiesa di San Carlo Borromeo stands at the junction of Via Marchesino and the SS12. The nearby Chiesa di San Carlo Borromeo has a 17th-century main altar made of polychrome marble.

ATV route 41 connects Marchesino with Cadidavid, Stazione P.N., Ospedale, B.go Nuovo and Chievo/Sorte. The route thereby connects Marchesino with several other destinations.

The Feast Day of SS. Redentore

On July 2, 2017, the Feast Day of SS. Redentore was celebrated in Marchesino with food stalls, an amusement park and an outdoor Mass. The date forms part of the documented local history of Marchesino.
