Discover Carrè: History, Churches and Circular Routes

Carrè combines a multifaceted local history with churches, traditional festivals and circular routes. The highlights are the Castello di Carrè on the hill above the town, the religious buildings in Carrè and the town’s western orientation towards the Colline delle Bregonze. This local character is complemented by the Corte dei Bertoldo, the Vecchia latteria and the annual festival calendar.

Castle history and historic townscapes

A castle already stood on the hill above the town at the Castello di Carrè between 1030 and 1038. The Castello belonged to the Capra family for several centuries. In the early 16th century, it was demolished on the orders of the Republic of Venice.

The Corte dei Bertoldo consists of an archway, a large square courtyard and six residential buildings. The Vecchia latteria is also one of Carrè’s historic traces. The dairy was probably established around 1880. Rural cheese production has thus been passed down as a distinct historical aspect of the town.

Churches, processions and festivals

The foundation stone of the Chiesa Arcipretale in Carrè was laid on 1 March 1874; the solemn inauguration took place on 19 March 1878. The façade is designed in the Renaissance style and has two bell towers.

The Madonna della Fratta in Carrè is the destination of frequent popular processions, including on its feast day and on 24 September. On special occasions, the Chiesa di Santa Lucia is used to display paintings and items offered for charitable purposes. At the Madonna della Fratta, the procession tradition is the main focus, while at Santa Lucia the focus is on exhibitions held on special occasions.

The annual Festa del Ringraziamento is also part of local life. It has been celebrated in Carrè every year at the end of October for more than sixty years and marks the end of the agricultural season. Circular routes and landscape orientation

The Anello Giallo N°3 T3 is a 1.7 km circular route in Carrè. Its exact length can be taken into account in day planning as a short route in its own right. The Anello Blu N°2 T2 runs through Carrè and Chiuppano. The 1.7 km length of the Anello Giallo and the Anello Blu’s route through two towns provide two specific points of reference when choosing a route. Carrè extends westwards towards the Colline delle Bregonze.
