Valle di Castelgomberto: Trails, Churches and Culinary Delights
Valle di Castelgomberto combines churches, traces of history, forest paths and regional products to create a diverse destination for an individually planned trip to Italy. The place is particularly interesting if you would like to combine outdoor activity in the landscape with small cultural discoveries and authentic culinary experiences.
Churches and Historical Traces
The Monumento ai Caduti near the parish church of Santa Cecilia was inaugurated on 24 April 1977. The Church of Santa Cecilia in Castelgomberto dates from the 18th century. After the construction of the new Church of San Pietro e Paolo at the beginning of the 20th century, it was abandoned; it was subsequently decided to dismantle it and rebuild it in the Valle district.
Circular Trails and Local Orientation
After reaching the Chiesetta di Regina Pacis, the Giro di Valdilonte continues as a circular trail through the upper valley. Along the way, it follows hillside paths along the Contrade Povoli, Sottoriva and Motto. The route is 9.3 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 150 metres, takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, and is also suitable for mountain bikers.
From the square in Valle di Castelgomberto, follow the road towards Torreselle for approximately one kilometre. At the Chiesetta di Regina Pacis, turn left and follow the road to the Agriturismo Valdibarco. The chapel is located at the confluence of Valdilonte and Valdibarco, making it a distinctive reference point within the landscape described.
Forest, Rocks and Quiet Places to Pause
At the Chiesetta di San Valentino, wooden tables stand on a meadow surrounded by trees. The spot is suitable for resting or having a picnic. Near Bocca Pass lies the Buso del Ponte, also known as Covolo delle Anguane: a small cave with a large circular opening near the entrance.
A forest path leads from Valdicase to the concrete Croxe del Galo. The Croxe del Galo is also visible from the meadows of Valdilonte and from some clearings on Monte Mori. Another forest path leads from a Rustico in Valdibarco along the mountainside to Valdilonte. Along the Strada vecia de Vale, below Colle di San Valentino, lie old white-stone quarries that are considered extensive, bright caves.
Events and Regional Products
The Sagra Valle in Valle di Castelgomberto will take place on the last weekend of June 2025. The Sagra a Valle 2023 was a weekend featuring music and good food. The 14th Camminata di Primavera was also a non-competitive walking event, with routes of approximately 7 kilometres and 12.5 kilometres.
The Agriturismo Valdibarco offers meals and drinks as well as breakfast and/or tastings or small snacks on site. The agriturismo also sells products directly from its own farm. Alongside the trails and landscape impressions, this makes concrete regional culinary experiences another facet of Valle.
