Fara Vicentino: Churches, Nature and Torcolato

Fara Vicentino combines Italian culture with nature and outdoor activities. In the churches, you will encounter works of art and architectural history, while trails through forests, meadows, farmland and vineyards lead to local contrade. There is also the Selgea Oasis, horseback riding experiences, cycling routes and a wine tradition.

Churches and Art

Parish Church of St Bartholomew the Apostle: Paintings and Reconstruction

The main altar of the Chiesa parrocchiale di S. Bartolomeo apostolo features a painting by Giacomo da Ponte. It depicts the Virgin Mary with Saint Lucy and Saint Mary Magdalene. The parish church belonged to the Augustinian monks until 1180 and was rebuilt between 1851 and 1859 in the Neoclassical style.

Church of St George the Martyr: Construction Phases and Bell Tower

The Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire also tells the story of several construction phases. It was probably built around 1250 and was first mentioned in an important document in 1297. Construction of the new church began in 1770; its stone, tower-shaped bell tower was rebuilt between 1821 and 1828.

Oratorio Immacolata e Santi Felice e Fortunato

The original church of the Oratorio Immacolata e Santi Felice e Fortunato was built around 1480 on the site of a smaller church dating from 1150 that was later destroyed. The home of ceramic artist Alessio Tasca contains ceramic sculptures by the artist.

Trails through the Landscape and Contrade

The Cammino Rigoni Stern runs along the Vicenza–Asiago route through Fara Vicentino.

The Sentiero Natura di Valle Zaccona leads through forests, meadows, farmland and vineyards to historic local contrade. In addition, Itinerary 2.01 runs through the hills of Fara Vicentino, Breganze and Lugo di Vicenza, as well as along the Astico River and the Chiavone Bianco stream.

Water, Nature and Horseback Riding Experiences

The site where the fossil palms of Lonedo were discovered is located along the Chiavone stream. The Selgea Oasis is a natural area near the Astico River, located on the site of a former gravel pit and on the border with the municipality of Zugliano, which owns it. Ducks and other birds can be observed there. There are also picnic areas and the opportunity to sit on the lakeshore.

Horseback riding excursions can start from the equestrian facility in the village of Val Zaccona. Arriba Ranch offers safe, guided routes designed for different levels and needs. The Transit Farm has cycling routes.

Torcolato and the Wine Route

Torcolato is a passito wine that has been known in Fara Vicentino for centuries. A wine route leads from Breganze through Torreselle between the valleys of the Astico and the Chiavone.
