Lusiana between Traditional Crafts, Art and Mountain Nature

Lusiana offers a destination where traditional work in the forest, art in the landscape and alpine nature come together. In the Area Labioli e antichi lavori del bosco, you can visit the charcoal burner's dwelling with demonstration charcoal kilns, the woodcutter's hut with “biode” and “fogolaro”, the lime kiln and water basins carved into the rock known as “labioli”.

In the centre of Lusiana stands the Chiesa di San Giacomo. Together with its campanile, it forms the eastern side of Piazza IV Novembre. The campanile was built at the end of the 19th century. From its bell chamber, you can see the landscape of the Altopiano di Asiago; on clear days, Monte Cimone and Parco del Sojo are also visible.

Museums and Art in the Town

In the heart of Lusiana, the Museo Palazzon is housed in a 17th-century building. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to traditional straw processing. The straw was used to make “fastughi” for producing “sporte” and “capei”. This makes a local craft tangible through specific materials and products.

The private park Parco del Sojo – Arte e Natura in Lusiana covers about 8 hectares. More than 80 contemporary sculptures stand along paths and old mule tracks. In the area around Lusiana, Parco del Sojo Arte e Natura is also among the museums. Above the Biblioteca di Lusiana, the Museo della Fauna Alpina provides insight into mountain animals and the traces they leave in the forests.

Landscape and Destinations in the Surrounding Area

Around Lusiana, Villa Piovene and Villa Godi are among the palaces, Castello Superiore among the castles and Cave di Rubbio among the caves. Monte Alberelli, Col d'Astiago and Col del Gallo are among the mountains in the area. These varied local and landscape features offer a broad range of options for cultural interests and nature observation, without all the destinations having the same character.

The Giardino Alpino “Dario Broglio” is located in the Monte Corno area. It lies within an area recognised as a Sito di Importanza Comunitaria (S.I.C.) and contains more than 500 herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees typical of the mountains of the Province of Vicenza. These also include rare species or species found locally on the plateau.

Commemorative Heritage and Signposted Trails

The Cimitero Militare Britannico di Granezza is one of five British cemeteries on the Altopiano di Asiago7Comuni. It was established shortly after the end of the conflict, is under the protection of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and contains a total of 1,024 fallen soldiers. “La Grande Guerra” covers the British and French sectors as well as the defensive line in the Monte Corno area.

For a hike, the fully signposted nature trail on Monte Corgnon leads from Val Fontana along the slope and summit of Monte Corgnon through the forest to the Villaggio Preistorico on the ridge. By reservation, guided visits to the Pestarino dei Togna, the Maglio di Valli di Sotto and the Mulino Garzotto are also possible; all three are part of the Museo Diffuso di Lusiana.
