Art, silk and ceramics in Malo

If you would like to combine cultural impressions with regional history in Malo, the museums open up several different areas of interest. The Museo Casabianca is a permanent museum for graphic works by contemporary artists from the 1960s to the 1990s. More than 1,200 works by 700 artists are exhibited there. The museum’s activities date back to 1978. This means that, alongside the large number of works, the development of contemporary graphic art over several decades is also a central focus.

The Museo dell’Arte Serica e Laterizia is dedicated to two materials, each with its own history. The silk section covers mulberry cultivation, silkworm breeding and the reeling of silk in Malo. In the brick section, the exhibition includes artefacts demonstrating the use of clay since the Neolithic period.

Papier-mâché and the Chiesa di Santa Libera

Another special destination is the historic Venetian Mondonovo workshop for papier-mâché masks. It was moved to Malo in its entirety and transformed into a museum workshop. The Museo Mondonovo Maschere regularly offers workshops for learning the art of papier-mâché. From 25 September 2011, the Museo Mondonovo Maschere made 250 works, 500 moulds, a library and archive collection, as well as tools, antiques and furniture available to the public. In this way, craftsmanship, masks and traditional working materials come together in one place in Malo.

The historical side of Malo also includes the Chiesa di Santa Libera, the old parish church of Malo. Its structure was renovated from 1721 to 1897. The church also contains a stone Madonna and Child created by the workshop of Bernardino and Tommaso del Pedemuro. For visitors interested in culture, this offers a different perspective from the museums: architecture and a single sacred work of art take centre stage here.

Paths, farm products and wines

In the area around Molina di Malo, paths along the river are suitable for hiking and cycling. This option complements the museums and historic interiors with outdoor activity. Depending on your personal interests, you can therefore focus on graphic art, regional craft topics or active time on paths by the water. The different themes are also suitable for planning a trip in which not every day follows the same rhythm.

As part of its programme as an educational farm, Fattoria La Greppia offers guided tours. In its farm shop, it sells its own agri-yoghurts and agri-desserts. This gives agricultural work and homemade products a concrete place alongside art and history in Malo. Fattoria combines guided tours with products made on site, so you do not have to limit yourself to a purely museum-based visit.

The regional character also includes wines made exclusively from grapes grown in Val Leogra. Together with the products of Fattoria La Greppia, this creates a culinary aspect that meaningfully complements the cultural themes. Malo is therefore particularly interesting if you would like to combine museums, craft techniques, historic buildings, outdoor paths and regional products in a single trip.
