Sarego Among Villas and Paths

The area around Sarego is home to villas and historic landmarks. There is also a cycling route, a park, a summit and viewpoints. The buildings date from the beginning of the 16th century to the second half of the 16th century. The locations range from Sarego and Meledo di Sarego to the area around Ca’ Quinta.

Architecture with Palladio Connections

Villa Manzoni Valcasara was built at the beginning of the 16th century and is attributed to Antonio Francesco Olivera. The central hall of the villa retains its original terracotta floors and details of a wooden coffered ceiling.

Villa Arnaldi was designed by Andrea Palladio in 1547 and remained unfinished. The main building retains fragments of frescoes, a painted wooden ceiling and two fireplaces dating from the second half of the 16th century. The barchesse of Villa Trissino are also connected with Palladio: they are the only surviving part of his unfinished villa project in Meledo di Sarego.

At the entrance to the former stables, Villa Quinto retains a portal dating from the late 16th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the remains of a Roman villa with a mosaic floor were discovered in the area around Ca’ Quinta.

Visiting Conditions for the Villas

Villa Manzoni Valcasara can be visited daily by prior reservation. Villa Quinto is privately owned and can only be visited by appointment. The two properties therefore differ in how an interior visit must be arranged.

Historic Path near Meledo

The Sentiero dei Monti di Meledo passes by the grounds of Sant’Eusebio. The oratory was rebuilt in 1648 according to a design by the architect Antonio Pizzocaro. Meledo di Sarego is therefore connected both with Palladio’s Villa Trissino project and with the Sentiero dei Monti di Meledo.

Destinations in the Immediate Surroundings

The immediate surroundings of Sarego include Villa Pisani Ferri La Rocca, a palace, and Museo Della Civilta' Contadina, a museum. Parco Ippodromo, a park, is also located nearby. The area around Sarego also includes Villa Francanzan Piovene, a palace, and Castello della Bellaguardia, a castle.

Cycling Route and Viewpoints

The Itinerario ciclo-turistico della Favorita (Sentiero 44) begins in one of the town centres of Sarego, Meledo or Monticello di Fara. Monte Calvarina, a summit, is also located in the area around Sarego. Further afield in the region are Panorama dal Piazzale della Basilica di Monte Berico, a viewpoint, and Punto panoramico "Castello", also a viewpoint. The different location references help keep the cycling route, summit and panoramic spots separate when planning a day trip.
