Monteviale combines trails through forests and meadows with Villa Zileri, chapels, frescoes and local cuisine. Here you can discover both historical landmarks and practical opportunities for walks and excursions. Highlights range from Villa Loschi Zileri in Biron to Porchetta di Monteviale.

Trails between forests and meadows

The municipality of Monteviale lists seven walking and combined cycling and walking trails: Sentiero no. 1 “Canestrello”, Sentiero no. 2 “Zuccheriei – delle Are”, Sentiero no. 3 “Vegrolongo – della Sorgente – dell’Ornaro”, Sentiero no. 4 “del Perozzo”, Sentiero no. 5 “del Cornugio”, Sentiero no. 6 “Strada False” and Sentiero no. 7 “dell’Orco”. These trails are suitable for hikers, cycling enthusiasts and visitors who enjoy forests and meadows.

A separate short trail experience is offered by the Sentiero delle Foglie Lucenti. Round trail markers indicate its route, and the recommended duration is 45 minutes. Along the trail are ten life-size silhouettes of animals that live in the surrounding forests: robin, blackbird, buzzard, squirrel, snake, stone marten, fox, badger, hare and hedgehog.

Villa, park and art

Villa Loschi Zileri, now known as Motterle, was built in the hamlet of Biron in 1734 by Muttoni on an older 15th-century structure. Villa Zileri contains numerous frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo. This brings architectural history and frescoes together in one place.

The historic park surrounding Villa Zileri is home to rare wild-growing plants and impressive centuries-old trees, which find a suitable habitat there. A bald cypress with a trunk circumference of approximately six metres at a height of 1.5 metres is considered a monumental tree at national level. At the Fontana della Donestra, there is a view across the plain; the surroundings are cool and shady.

Historical traces in Monteviale

The votive chapel of Madonna della Salute was built in late autumn 1631 in thanksgiving for the prayers that brought an end to the plague, which had claimed numerous victims in the Monteviale area for more than a year. The church of Santa Maria Assunta was built on the foundations of the fortress of Monteviale, which was completely destroyed by Tebaldo Francigena in 1240.

Local cuisine and special experiences

The Sagra dell’Ottava is also known as the Sagra di Monteviale and is associated with Porchetta di Monteviale as a typical dish. The traditional Sagra dell’Ottava held in 2025 featured performances and local cuisine. Porchetta di Monteviale is made from a pig weighing between 20 and 35 kg and cooked on a spit over a fire fueled strictly with wood.

Bus no. 16 runs from Vicenza to Monteviale; for Base Scout Costigiola, the “Costigiola – Via delle Mure” stop is designated. Another experience is offered by Fattoria Didattica A&Alpaca, with trekking alongside Huacaya alpacas.
