Conco: trails, history and local traditions

Conco combines hiking trails starting from the town with a parish church, an Italian-French military cemetery and recurring events. When planning your trip, you can consider the trails from Conco, the architectural history of the parish church, the cemetery or the regular event dates individually.

Historic places in Conco

The Cimitero Italo-francese di Conco was established after the defeat at Caporetto. The first Italian burial took place in May 1917, and French burials began in 1918. A total of 2,784 fallen soldiers were buried in the cemetery; 25 percent of those buried were unidentified. The cemetery therefore contains both Italian and French burials.

The parish church of Conco is dedicated to S. Marco and the Madonna della Neve. It was built between 1536 and 1539 and extended in 1713.

Hiking trails, spring and Malga Biancoia

A hiking trail starting from Conco is lined with historic, large beech trees known as “Fagaroni”. The natural spring “Poseto del Prundole” is part of a hiking trail starting from Conco. Those who would like to include natural sites along the trails from Conco in their plans can note the Fagaroni and Poseto del Prundole as separate destinations.

Malga Biancoia is easily accessible by car and has a large parking lot. This makes the location a separate point of interest for visitors planning to arrive by car. The combination of hiking trails from Conco and the Malga destination accessible by car allows for different ways of planning the day. Those who drive to Malga Biancoia will find the large parking lot there as a concrete parking option.

Further activities and seasonal dates

The municipality of Lusiana Conco has a paragliding launch site at Contrà Bielli.

The traditional Fiaccolata delle Contrade di Conco takes place every year on January 1. The gastronomic event series “A tavola con il Tarassaco di Conco De.Co.” returns in spring and takes place in March, April and May. The traditional “Sagra del Sedano” takes place every year on September 8. A single day in January is enough in the calendar for the Fiaccolata, while the Tarassaco series spans three spring months.

Flavours from Conco

The white celery has a light-coloured rib, a delicate texture and a mild flavour. Together with the “Sagra del Sedano” and the gastronomic series centred around the Tarassaco, regional food culture is therefore also one of the specific topics you can take into account when planning a trip to Conco.
