Pedemonte: Hiking Trails, Waterfalls and History

In Pedemonte, the marked circular trails, waterfalls and sights of the Sentieri delle Cascate are the main attractions. Il Nido di Pedemonte adds an immersive wooden land art installation by Marco Martalar. Historic buildings and natural attractions round out the range of experiences.

Waterfalls and a wooden land art installation

The Sentieri delle Cascate project comprises marked hiking trails and three circular hikes. This network of circular trails leads to places of particular scenic appeal as well as to waterfalls and sights in Pedemonte. The former starting point of the Sentieri delle Cascate was at the car park of the former town hall in the Longhi district of Pedemonte.

Il Nido di Pedemonte is an immersive wooden land art installation by Marco Martalar. Guided tours of Il Nido di Pedemonte can be booked through the Associazione OGD Pedemontana Veneta e Colli.

Hiking trails with different focuses

Hiking Trail 595 Via dell’Ancino follows a medieval road that connected Val d’Astico with Caldonazzo and Trento. Hiking Trail 597 leads from Brancafora di Pedemonte to Forte Belvedere. Hiking Trail 605 runs along the foothills of Belfiore and rocky outcrops in the upper Val d’Astico.

Other trail routes run from Valle di Rio Torto at the regional border to Eck delle Albarele at the regional border, as does Hiking Trail 598. Hiking Trail 599 leads from Ponte Rio Torto via Capitello Sella del Cavallo to the regional border. Hiking Trail 601 connects Scalzeri di Pedemonte with Luserna, while Hiking Trail 611 leads from Casotto to Malga Croiere. In Val d’Astico, route planning can be based on destinations such as Luserna, Malga Croiere and the regional borders.

The local selection of trails also includes La Strada de la Riva. This hiking trail runs through the Pedemonte area along the eastern mountain slopes, passing through four particularly characteristic hamlets of the town.

Historic places and buildings

Forte Belvedere is an imposing building that has been converted into a museum about the First World War. The church of Brancafora once served all the farms in the rear Val d’Astico and partly on the plateau; at that time, it was the only church in the area. The church of Casotto and the adjacent small cemetery are associated with the year 1748; restoration took place in 1920.

Nature experiences and regional features

The Avez del Prinzep near Malga Laghetto is considered Europe’s largest fir tree. The waters of the Astico stream are known among anglers. The grotto can be reached via a path that begins at the village pharmacy.
