Bertigo: Trails, Mountain History and Panoramic Views

Around Bertigo, trails across the alpine plateau meet sites of historical remembrance. The Contrada Bertigo appears along several different routes: Route B1 reaches it after the Cippo Niccolai, while other trails pass through the contrada or start there. This creates a destination where nature, cycling and historical themes can be experienced through clearly defined routes.

Routes with Views across the Alpine Plateau

Route B1 | Cima Ekar – Monte Valbella – Bertigo – Turcio reaches Contrada Bertigo after the Cippo Niccolai. This route is recommended from May to October, provided there is no snow. The circular route is also available as a GPX track and can help you navigate its course.

Near the huge yellow bench in front of Malga Campocostalunga, Route B1 | Cima Ekar – Monte Valbella – Bertigo – Turcio offers a viewpoint overlooking the central alpine plateau.

Memorial Sites on Monte Valbella

The excursion to Cima Valbella and the Monumento ai Bersaglieri leads to the monument to Captain Eugenio Niccolai in Località Melaghetto. It passes through Contrada Bertigo, by the Sciovie di Valbella and onward to Contrada Laben.

The Via Tilman route also has a historical connection: it follows the path taken by Major H. W. Tilman on his way to his command post during the war. The unpaved Via Tilman is used for mountain bike rides from Asiago to the Astronomical Observatory; near Località Bertigo, the route reaches a paved road.

At the summit of Monte Valbella there is a sacred area with a memorial stone, an altar and a cross commemorating the Bersaglieri who fell in these mountains. Route B1 also passes through sites affected by the Battle of the Three Mountains.

Hiking through Forests, Pastures and History

The route “Il Sacrario Militare e la Calà del Sasso” passes through Contrada Bertigo and is 13 km long. It includes numerous sites associated with the First World War and, in particular, the Battle of the Three Mountains. Its course through forests and pastures combines historical themes with a varied landscape.

For a shorter route, a trail leads from Bertigo to Malga Ronco di Carbon. It can optionally be extended along a short unpaved road to Casara Stenfle. This allows you to distinguish between the destination described and the additional extension.

Alpine ski slopes run along the slopes of the Cima Ekar area. When choosing a hotel or other accommodation in Bertigo, you can therefore consider whether your main focus is the B1 circular route, the historical excursions, a mountain biking trail or the alpine surroundings.
