This SAC extends along the coast of the municipality of Guardavalle in the province of Catanzaro on the Ionian side of Calabria and covers approximately 34 hectares.

On the Ionian side of Calabria, Dune di Guardavalle preserves one of the few remaining coastal areas with intact dune vegetation. Behind the beach of Guardavalle Marina, the dunes are home to Mediterranean maquis and prickly pears. Another distinctive feature of the beach is the loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta): they nest there every year.
