Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, while a barrel vault covers the nave. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Crisostomo in Piano dello Schiavo offers a different architectural accent: its floor plan follows the shape of a Greek cross, complemented by a round dome.

Inside the Chiesa di San Giovanni Crisostomo is a wooden iconostasis with icons of the Pantocrator and the Odhighitria. The Cappella di Santa Lucia has a distinctly more rural setting. It has been documented since the first half of the 19th century, stands in the countryside and overlooks the valley of the Tiro River. Its single-nave interior includes a small apse with a stucco-decorated niche.

Arbëreshë Culture and Religious Tradition

Firmo follows the Greek-Byzantine rite of the Eparchy of Lungro. The Arbërisht language spoken in Firmo has also preserved, almost unchanged, the phonological, morphological and syntactic structure of common Albanian more than five centuries after its speakers left their country of origin.
