Between mountain ridges and agricultural landscapes
Flumeri lies between the mountain ridges of Baronia, the Ufita Valley and the sub-basin of Fiumarella, at an elevation of 638 metres above sea level. Its location between mountain ridges, valley and sub-basin provides the town with a clear geographical framework for travel planning.
Large areas in Flumeri are used for growing wheat and other grains, fruit trees and vegetables, as well as for pasture for numerous farm animals. Alongside the historic buildings and the festival tradition of the Giglio, these open agricultural areas are part of Flumeri’s townscape.

Ancient and historic buildings
In the ancient settlement area of Flumeri, the excavated house block reveals a Republican domus with a Tuscan atrium, lateral alae, an axial entrance, vestibule, tablinum and a garden surrounded by a portico. In addition to the living spaces, the garden surrounded by a portico is also part of the domus.
More recent buildings are also part of the historic townscape: the Church of San Rocco in Flumeri dates from the 17th century. In the locality of Tre Torri di Doganelle, there is also the Dogana aragonese complex, which is also called Palazzo della Bufata and has a total perimeter of approximately 200 metres. Dogana aragonese and Palazzo della Bufata are therefore two names for the same complex. The church thus dates from a significantly more recent period than the Republican domus.
The Castello di Rocca San Felice is located in the vicinity of Flumeri. The Castello di Morra de Sanctis is situated in the wider regional surroundings of Flumeri. The two castles have different spatial relationships to Flumeri: one Castello is nearby, while the other is in the wider regional area. These two ranges remain separate for spatial planning purposes.
The tradition of the Tirata del Giglio
Every year on 15 August, Flumeri hosts the traditional Tirata del Giglio in honour of Saint Roch. The date is therefore a fixed point in time when travel planning is geared towards this tradition.
The Giglio itself is a roughly 30-metre-high, pyramid-shaped wooden structure. It is covered with seven decorative tiers made of woven wheat and straw. During the Alzata on 8 August, the Giglio is slowly raised with the help of arms, ropes and wooden beams. Wheat and straw also connect the festival structure with Flumeri’s agriculturally shaped surroundings.
Olive oil and traditional cuisine
Flumeri is known for olive oil made from the valuable Ravece cultivar.
Typical products from Flumeri also include Ammugliatelli. These are roulades filled with lamb offal.
