Cultural History in Lacedonia’s Museums and Historical Traces
The MAVI – Museo Antropologico Visivo is housed in a 19th-century building that formerly served as a district prison. The museum also includes a collection of photographs taken in Lacedonia in 1957. The MAVI therefore brings together a 19th-century building and photographs from 1957 in the same museum.
The Museo diocesano di San Gerardo opened in 1997 and is dedicated to San Gerardo Maiella. Another historical trace is preserved by the Castello di Pappacota: clearly visible remains of its original fortification structure are still preserved. The historical traces thus range from a religious dedication to visible remains of a fortification.
The connection to transhumance is also part of the town’s cultural profile. This refers to an ancient pastoral practice in which livestock moves seasonally between grazing areas in the Mediterranean region and the Alps. This practice was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2019.
Events with a Historical and Local Character
The historical reenactment of the Congiura dei Baroni in Lacedonia recreates important moments of the oath of September 11, 1486.

The Festa di San Gerardo Majella is also a regular event, taking place in Lacedonia every year on October 16. Another seasonal event is Calici in centro: on an August evening, wineries from Irpinia offer tastings in the tuff caves of the historic town center. Nature Trails on Monte Pauroso and in the Contrade
Lacedonia has two signposted nature trails. The Percorso del monte Pauroso is a nature trail on Monte Pauroso. The Percorso delle contrade Serrone e Macchialupo runs through the Contrade Serrone and Macchialupo. Regional Specialties: Cauzuncielli and Oliva masciatica
Cauzuncielli are oven-baked sweets resembling ravioli and made with chestnut paste and chocolate.
The Oliva masciatica is a medium-sized olive with medium-late ripening.
