Fiordo di Furore and Routes to Get There
Two footpaths with different starting points are the main ways to approach the Fiordo di Furore. One route is around 1.5 kilometers long and takes about an hour; it begins at Piazza Generale Avitabile in San Lazzaro or at Piazza Paolo Capasso in Bomerano. The two starting points and the approximate duration help you plan the walk as a distinct part of the day. Another footpath leads over the old steps of the Borgo di Furore to the Fiordo di Furore. On the beach at the Fiordo, a small museum preserves an old paper mill, a mill and a drying facility for Amalfi paper. Every summer, a stage of the World Cliff Diving Championships takes place on the bridge over the Fiordo di Furore.
Churches, Ecomuseum and Painted Village Culture
The Chiesa San Michele Arcangelo has three naves, pointed arches, cross-vaults with pointed arches in the side naves, trefoil windows and a tripartite apse on the rear wall. The Chiesa San Giacomo Apostolo was founded on September 15, 1362. Together, the two churches present different historical and architectural points of reference for a cultural stay in Furore.
The Ecomuseo del Fiordo was established in 2000 on the initiative of the Comune di Furore. It includes “Le vie del Cinema (Ways of love),” a tourism and cultural tour with the “Memoria Costa Diva” archive. The Ecomuseum also includes equipped botanical paths along the Sentiero dei Pipistrelli Impazziti, as well as an associated herbarium in the rooms of the Cartiera-Mulino. Muri d’Autore comprises murals, sculptures and a documentation center about Italian painted villages.
Local Cuisine of Furore
Furore also has its own culinary points of reference. “Totani e patate” is considered a characteristic dish of Furore’s local cuisine. “Ricci Furitani” is a handmade type of pasta associated with Furore. Both specialties give your trip a tangible introduction to the local food culture.
Practical Information for Your Stay
The Chiesa San Michele Arcangelo is open on Saturday afternoons and on Sundays at 11 a.m. for Mass. On March 28, 2026, a stage of the Palio Nazionale delle Botti of the Associazione Nazionale Città del Vino will take place in Furore.
