Castel Maggiore between Culture and Landscapes
Castel Maggiore offers several different ways to experience culture and landscapes. In the town itself, the Feast of Saint Andrew marks an annual event on 30 November. At the same time, the Ciclovia del Navile follows a protected route through Castel Maggiore. It runs from the Chiusa di Casalecchio via the centre of Bologna to Bentivoglio, crossing Castel Maggiore along the Navile Canal. In this way, a local feast day and a clearly defined cycling route can be combined when planning your trip.

Villas, Literature and Local Festivals
Villa Salina Malpighi stands in Primo Maggio. This 16th-century villa is associated with Marcello Malpighi and the family of the Counts Salina. “A spasso nel parco” held its second edition with guided walks in the park of Villa Salina Malpighi. Nature and landscape-related aspects were presented, while dramatic performances complemented the visits. The “Condimenti – Festival di Cibo e della Letteratura” also takes place every year at Villa Salina Malpighi and includes book presentations, cooking workshops and street food.
Literature and Art in Trebbo di Reno
In Trebbo di Reno, the focus is on literature and art. The Centro di lettura “L’Isola del Tesoro” is a volunteer-run centre promoting reading and lending books. The Church of San Giovanni Battista in Trebbo di Reno houses an altarpiece by Francesco Gessi from the school of Guido Reni, depicting Saint John the Baptist in the desert.
Parks and Paths by the Water
Villa Zarri is surrounded by a three-hectare, centuries-old park with a large central lawn. It is lined with lime trees, plane trees and evergreen trees. The Reno floodplains offer a different way to experience the landscape: further access points can be reached via Lungo Reno (Via Lame), making them suitable for walks on foot or on horseback. This creates a clear contrast between the landscaped park of Villa Zarri and the floodplains along the Reno.
Events with Music and Poetry
The Salotto Summer Festival is designed as a recurring live music event; its second edition takes place from 19 to 21 June in the park of Villa Salina Malpighi. A festival featuring international and Italian poets reached its third edition. Discussion panels on the significance of poetry, book presentations and readings took place at the Teatro Biagi D’Antona, the PAS – Parco del Sapere Ginzburg and the Centro di lettura “L’Isola del Tesoro”. Music, poetry, books and discussions thus provide various cultural occasions that you can take into account when planning your trip.
