Linaro Among Hill Paths and History

Linaro can be discovered through historical traces and varied paths. At the center is San Pietro Apostolo: the church, its long ecclesiastical history, and several testimonies in its surroundings give the place a cultural character. Added to this are circular walks through the first foothills, paths over ridgelines, and routes along watercourses and canals. In this way, Linaro offers different points of connection for a calmly planned trip to Italy.

San Pietro Apostolo and Historical Traces

The Church of San Pietro Apostolo in Linaro, dedicated to the Apostle Peter, may date back to the Lombard period. The parish has existed since at least the 15th century. The present-day church was solemnly consecrated on September 29, 1928, and has a Latin cross floor plan. In the parish house stands a Madonna del Rosario, which had previously crowned the church's dome for a long time. Thus, in one place, you encounter both an older ecclesiastical tradition and a clearly dated 20th-century building.

Historical points of reference can also be found outside the church. The ruins of Villa Nardozzi in Linaro are visible from the road. On May 1, 1922, Casa Rigolino was the scene of gunfire during a demonstration for Labour Day. Both places add visible and historical traces to the view of Linaro, without their significance needing to be limited to a single period.

Circular Walks Through the Hills

The circular walk Le basse colline di Linaro leads through the first foothills amid agriculturally used greenery. It begins and ends at the cemetery of Linaro and passes by Villa Torano. The surface is also relevant for your planning: the clay soil on this circular walk is not recommended in heavy rain. The route therefore combines scenic impressions with a specific weather-dependent consideration.

The route Poggiolo e Morine offers a different perspective. It runs along a ridge between the Rio dei Palazzi and the upper course of the Rio delle Morine. Along the way, views open up over vineyards, woodland in the first foothills, and the nearby city of Imola. The route passes the cemetery of Linaro and then continues to the SP Montanara. Those who want to compare different trail characteristics will find here a clear complement to the circular walk through the agriculturally shaped greenery.

Cycling Routes, Mills, and Plant Diversity

There is also a separate thematic approach for exploring by bicycle. The route Imola–Casa del Fiume follows the Santerno cycling and pedestrian path along the Canale dei Mulini. The route is connected with the two Paroli and Linaro mills; the Linaro mill is one of them. The Vivaio Zerina is also located in this area; it is one of three regional plant nurseries supporting the preservation of plant biodiversity.

Osservatorio Astronomico and Planned Nature Activities

In the area around Linaro, a circular walk leads toward the Osservatorio Astronomico. There is a screening room, an exhibition room, and a dome with a diameter of 4.5 metres housing the main telescope. At the Vivaio Forestale Zerina in Imola, a public programme with workshops, excursions, sensory walks, and family days was planned for the period from May to October 2026. The Agripedalata was also planned for 2026 as a cycling excursion along the Canale dei Mulini. The planned excursion was to start at the Fiera agricola del Santerno, include a visit to the canal embankment in Codrignano, and end at the Vivaio di Linaro; refreshments with local products were planned along the route.
