Claterna and Roman history
The Museo della CittĂ romana di Claterna opened on 30 March 2019. Using archaeological finds and informative materials, it explains the origins and rediscovery of the ancient city of Claterna. The Claterna archaeological site also contains the museum-preserved excavation of the Domus dei Mosaici.
The Flaminia Minor was probably built around 187 BC and connected Bononia, Claterna and Arezzo. Its historical context therefore extends beyond the individual archaeological site. The present-day route of the Flaminia Minor largely follows CAI Trail No. 801: it begins at the ancient Roman city of Claterna in Ozzano dell'Emilia and runs along a ridge characterized by Calanchi and impressive panoramic views.
San Pietro and other historic traces
The Torre of San Pietro is first associated with the Ulgianum castle in 1099. The Torre and the old Borgo di San Pietro form a restored historic complex; the old buildings can still be admired in their original unity. Here, the medieval connection to the castle and the preserved architectural structure of the Borgo therefore stand side by side as distinct historical themes.
Two Delle Armi wells dating from the 15th century are located near the church. Their name derives from a Bolognese family that had an aristocratic residence here. The Museo Memoriale della LibertĂ can also be found in the area around Ozzano dell'Emilia. The Museo Storico del Soldatino "M. Massacesi" is also located nearby.
Calanchi, ridge and cycling route
In the eastern part of the Gessi Bolognesi e Calanchi dell'Abbadessa Regional Park, the rugged ridges of the Calanchi dell'Abbadessa interrupt the gentle hills of Ozzano dell'Emilia. The landscape is therefore defined by a clear alternation between gentle hills and distinctly incised ridges.
For cycling, the Ciclovia dei Gessi di Gaibola offers a specific route option: including the detour to the WWF Molino Grande river oasis, it is 21 km long.
