Castelvetro di Modena combines historic spaces with regional food and wine culture. Piazza Roma features a black-and-white checkerboard pavement. The square is also known as Piazza della Dama. It serves as the playing area for a historical game of living draughts, which takes place in even-numbered years. The historic centre of Castelvetro – the Castello – was once surrounded by walls and has preserved its compact form with towers and bell towers.

Towers and Palaces in the Historic Townscape
The Torre dell’Orologio dates from the 11th or 12th century and preserves part of the old fortifications on the eastern side of the Castello di Castelvetro. The Torre delle Prigioni was built in the second half of the 16th century.
Palazzo Rangoni hosted the poet Torquato Tasso in 1564. The Sala del Tasso contains monochrome medallions relating to the poet’s works, as well as four paintings depicting various stages of his life.
Castello di Levizzano and Its Historic Rooms
The Castello di Levizzano is a fortification built as a defensive stronghold against the Hungarians. The Stanze dei Vescovi date from the 16th century and preserve frescoed ceilings. Access to the Castello di Levizzano is exclusively available through guided tours on days and at times निर्धारित by the municipality of Castelvetro. The Acetaia Comunale houses two batteries, each consisting of seven barrels, for producing Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena. Barrel woods from oak, chestnut, ash, acacia and cherry are used for this purpose. On the last Sunday of each month, the Acetaia offers free guided tours by prior reservation, in two sessions at 3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.
Festivals and Special Dates
The Sagra dell’Uva e del Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro takes place every year on the third and fourth weekends of September. The programme includes tastings, music, art, entertainment and in-depth programme events. Festa a Castello takes place in Piazza Roma in odd-numbered years; the event immerses visitors in a 16th-century atmosphere and traditionally includes served dishes, performances, fire shows and historical dances.
Fili d’oro a Palazzo is a permanent exhibition of garments made by volunteers from the Associazione Dama Vivente for historical re-enactments.
