Longera between the valley, waterworks and culture

A village with a history shaped by the valley on the old road

Longera developed along the old road through the valley of the same name. The beginnings of cultural life in Longera also date back to the final decades of the 19th century. The Roman aqueduct of Timignano originated in the Longera Valley.

Waterworks and distinctive structures along the Starebrech/Farneto stream

The Cappella di Longera is also known as the Cappella di S. Maria dei sette dolori. It consists of a single square room ending in a semicircular apse. Along the Starebrech/Farneto stream in Longera there are artificial galleries built in the second half of the 18th century. The stream is known by both names, Starebrech and Farneto. The upper Stena Gallery is 67 m long in total; its walls are covered along their entire length by a film of clear water. The Stena Galleries were intended to become part of the Teresian Aqueduct.

Paths through the valley to the Rio Farneto

After passing the Chiesa parrocchiale di Sant’Agostino, hiking route S0-011 leads to Strada per Longera and then descends to the Rio Farneto. When planning your walk, you can treat the change from the ascent to the subsequent descent as a transition between two sections. The “Le Vie dell’Acqua” walk began at Strada per Longera 207 and followed the stream to the Galleries of the French and the Teresian Aqueduct.

A lit pedestrian and cycle path connects Longera with Cattinara and begins at the outskirts of Longera on Strada per Longera. This provides a clearly identifiable connection between the two places for walks and bike rides.

Culture in the village: Christmas concerts, Women’s Day and events

In Longera, a cultural association organizes Christmas concerts, evenings marking Women’s Day and cultural events. In addition to the historic structures, culture enthusiasts can therefore also explore the local events scene as a distinct aspect of the village.

For individual day planning, the ascent on S0-011 can be taken into account when dividing up the walking distance; the subsequent descent forms part of the same route. Those who choose the waterworks as their main focus can follow the stream on “Le Vie dell’Acqua” to the Galleries of the French and the Teresian Aqueduct.
