The Sentiero 568 circular trail begins in Fonteno; its starting point is located at an altitude of 613 meters. Fonteno is situated like a natural balcony overlooking Lake Iseo and Val Camonica. The karst area associated with Fonteno stretches between Val Cavallina and the Bergamo shore of Lake Iseo. The town therefore combines an elevated position with a landscape encompassing both views above ground and extraordinary geological spaces.

Trails Between the Village and the Valley

The paths and mule tracks in the Fonteno valley offer the opportunity to hike through a peaceful natural landscape. At the same time, they preserve evidence of a rural culture that is gradually disappearing. The paths and mule tracks were restored recently, so their landscape and historical-cultural significance remain closely connected.

Different Routes for Planning

The main area of Sentiero 567 encompasses the municipalities of Riva di Solto, Solto Collina and Fonteno. Another notable route is the Strada comunale dei Brügái: it is approximately 4 kilometers long and has a stated duration of 2.5 hours. The different details on length and duration help you classify the trails according to your preferred pace for the day.

The Mulattiera del Tóres begins at the parking area on the porphyry-paved square in Fonteno. It passes the 16th-century Chiesetta di San Rocco and is approximately 4.8 kilometers long; its stated duration is 3.5 hours. This route thus combines specific historical stops with a clearly defined distance and time indication.

Trails to Viewpoints

A trail from the Fontana del Córen leads toward the scenic Monte Creò. The Strada comunale del Doss-Cargadura reaches the scenic Colle della Cargadura and is approximately 3.4 kilometers long. Both names represent distinct destinations within Fonteno's trail landscape and provide different points of orientation for planning your day.

To the Entrance of Abisso Bueno Fonteno

The lower Meteo section of Il sentiero delle grotte is an easy, family-friendly hike covering 2.5 kilometers from the square in Fonteno to the entrance of Abisso Bueno Fonteno. The route takes about one hour. Abisso Bueno Fonteno comprises more than 19 kilometers of already mapped passages and large chambers. The trail and the underground area therefore form two clearly distinguishable aspects of the town: the section leads to the entrance, while the great extent of the Abisso reveals Fonteno's geological dimension.

Churches, Frescoes and Local Specialties

The Santella di Boér was restored by young people from Fonteno and decorated with frescoes by the painter A. Bonfanti from Bergamo. The Chiesa dei Santi Faustino e Giovita was built between 1881 and 1883 in the neo-Gothic Lombard style. Its main altar dates from the 17th century and features polychrome marble inlay.

A local festival is also one of Fonteno's distinctive experiences: the Fonteno in Festa festival takes place on Fonteno's sports field. The festival kitchen serves ravioli and Capù, specialties for which Fonteno is known.
