Leffe: Textile History, Culture and Landscape

Leffe combines a history of textile industry, a strong ecclesiastical character and a landscape featuring a waterfall and surrounding peaks. The Museo del Tessile “Martinelli Ginetto” in Leffe is dedicated to the industrial archaeology of textiles. Leffe is also home to the Parrocchia San Michele Arcangelo, a provost church.

Experience Textile History at First Hand

At the Museo del Tessile “Martinelli Ginetto”, working machinery helps visitors understand the production processes involved in textile manufacturing and the cycle of silk processing. This makes the textile past tangible for you not only through terms or objects: the machines illustrate how production and processing were interconnected. The museum thus presents Leffe’s industrial textile archaeology through concrete processes and offers a thematic focus for anyone interested in regional economic history, craftsmanship and industrial work.

Events with a Local Connection

The 2026 Leffestate programme included themed food stalls as well as activities for children and families. The 2026 edition of Leffestate was the 15th edition.

The Marcia dei Coertì offers a special connection between local history and movement. It passes through places associated with Leffe’s “Copertini”. These were itinerant traders who distributed textiles from Val Gandino throughout Italy in the 20th century. This gives the route a clear connection to the region’s textile past, without requiring the landscape and history to be viewed separately.

Routes and Landscape in the Surrounding Area

The Marcia dei Coertì featured five routes of 6, 10, 12, 16 and 19 kilometres; participants could start freely from Piazzetta Servalli in Leffe. The different distances make it easier to compare the options for your personal planning and give you clear guidance when matching the event schedule with your own interests in physical activity and local history. The range of distances allows you to plan the Marcia dei Coertì as either a shorter or longer tour, depending on the time available.

The Cascate della Val Vertova are a waterfall in the area surrounding Leffe. Pizzo Formico and Monte Torrezzo are peaks in the area surrounding Leffe.
