Colombaro-Timoline: Churches, Vineyards and Trails

Colombaro-Timoline combines church and architectural history, wine culture, and trails through vineyards, fields and the surroundings of the Torbiere del Sebino for your travel planning. The points of interest range from historic religious buildings to hiking and cycling routes of varying lengths.

Churches and Historic Places

In Timoline, the original Church of Santi Cosma e Damiano has been mentioned in documents concerning the possessions of the Santa Giulia di Brescia monastery since the 12th century. A comprehensive renovation commissioned in 1532 by parish priest don Agostino Gandino gave the church its present appearance.

The main entrance to Santi Cosma e Damiano is reached on foot via a large paved church square; there are no obvious architectural barriers. For orientation on site, access via the square is therefore the main consideration.

The Chiesetta di Sant’Afra belongs to the medieval Castrum core in the south of Colombaro. It stands in the historic center of Colombaro at the intersection of the Clusane–Adro and Colombaro–Timoline–Provaglio d’Iseo routes. Inside, the floor of the late-medieval predecessor church can be seen at a depth of approximately 1.75 meters below the floor level of the 18th-century church.

Palazzo Pizzini consists of two buildings oriented toward an Italian garden. The palace, attributed to the late 17th century, is located to the north, while a building from the early years of the 19th century stands on the east side. Il Castello is not directly accessible, as the property is now used as a private residence.

Hiking, Cycling and Landscape

The third stage of the Via delle Sorelle passes through Timoline, Colombaro and Nigoline. It is part of the 130-kilometer route from Brescia to Bergamo and places the three locations within a wider regional hiking context.

A section of the Bergamo–Brescia cycle path also runs through Timoline, passing south of the Riserva Naturale delle Torbiere del Sebino. From Timoline, the southern path of the Riserva can be accessed for an approximately eight-kilometer circular route that is also suitable for young children.

The “Da Borgonato a Provaglio d’Iseo e ritorno” hike passes through vineyards and cultivated fields and reaches Provaglio-Timoline railway station in about half an hour. It complements the longer Via delle Sorelle and the cycle path with a shorter route focused on the landscape.

Wine and Orientation

The Bosio winery in Timoline offers cellar tours and guided tastings from Monday to Saturday by prior reservation and subject to availability. This allows you to deliberately combine wine culture with a stay in the surrounding area.

The Borgonato–Adro railway station on the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo railway line is located in the immediate surroundings of Colombaro-Timoline and is one of the nearest stations. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether churches and local history or the various trails and landscapes should be the focus of your trip.
