Bedizzole between the Castello, Pieve and Chiese

Bedizzole combines history, landscapes and tangible places for different travel interests. The municipality extends along both banks of the middle course of the Chiese River and reaches the western foothills of the Garda moraine amphitheatre. Between the river landscape and historic buildings, a destination emerges where you can experience cultural history, architecture and a distinctive landscape together.

Castles, churches and historic buildings

A prominent landmark is the Castello di Bedizzole. It was built in the 9th to 10th century to defend against invasions by the Hungarians. Palazzo Gambara adds a later architectural development to this historic picture: the palace dates from the 16th century and was later remodelled by Vantini in neoclassical forms.

The Pieve di Pontenove takes you even further into the religious and architectural history of the area. The Romanesque church has an interior with three naves separated by large arcades. Old frescoes have been preserved on its walls. Excavations at the Pieve also uncovered the remains of an octagonal baptistery dating from the 9th century.

The Ponte di Pontenove is also one of the area’s defining structures. The bridge dates from the early 18th century and replaced an earlier wooden bridge. Together with the Castello, Palazzo Gambara and the Pieve di Pontenove, it offers several tangible points of reference for a stay in which you can get to know Bedizzole through its preserved buildings and long local history.

River landscape and practical information

Bedizzole’s location on the Chiese shapes the town on both banks of the river. At the same time, the area reaches the western foothills of the Garda moraine amphitheatre. This combination of river landscape and moraine terrain gives the surroundings a distinct geographical character and serves as a guiding thread if you would like to combine cultural sightseeing with views of the landscape.

You can reach Parco della Rimembranza di Bedizzole through the gate on Via delle Rimembranze or via the entrance to the former school on Via Montegrappa.

Routes, religious history and regional cuisine

For cyclists, Tour 2 of the Bedizzole–Valtènesi route starts at the Duomo di Bedizzole.

Another cultural point of reference is the Santuario di Masciaga. A fresco there became a particular destination for pilgrimages during the plague of 1630. Culinary experiences are also associated with the Sagra di San Rocco 2026: at this festival, there was a food stand with a kitchen open daily from 19:00 to 23:00. At the 2026 Sagra, visitors could time their visit to the food stand to coincide with the kitchen’s operating hours.
