Borno combines winter sports, protected woodland and sites of cultural and historical interest. When choosing accommodation in Borno, you can focus on Monte Altissimo, nature, photography or sacred architecture. This allows you to plan your stay individually.

Forests and high-altitude areas around Borno

The Boschi del Giovetto di Paline regional nature reserve was established in 1983 and extends from the municipal area of Borno at elevations ranging from 1,200 to 2,300 metres. The protected area covers approximately 650 hectares and is almost entirely covered with spruce trees. The combination of different elevations and coniferous forest shapes the natural character of this part of the surrounding area.

Monte Altissimo and the ski area

The Borno–Monte Altissimo ski station extends from 912 to 1,704 metres above sea level. In the Monte Altissimo area, its ski slopes run through meadows and coniferous forests. The ski station is also part of the regional Skipass Lombardia network and is included in the Bergamasque ski pass network “Orobie skipass”. For an overview of the winter sports offering, elevation, slope landscape and network affiliation can therefore be considered together.

Directions for arriving

To reach the Monte Altissimo area, take the Cividate Camuno exit on the SS42 between Darfo and Breno. Drive towards Breno and turn off towards Borno after 1.5 kilometres. This sequence makes practical orientation easier when planning your visit.

Churches and photography as cultural focal points

The parish church Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Giovanni Battista is a late Baroque building; its façade is decorated with polychrome marble, stucco work by Martino Pasquelli from Milan dating from 1790, and frescoes. The Chiesa di San Fermo dates from the 17th century. Both buildings complement the nature and winter sports themes with sacred architecture and historical depth.

The Museo della Fotografia Storica Camuna has been located in Villa Guidetti in Borno since June 2019. It is open to the public and collects extensive photographic material from professional photographers and photography enthusiasts relating to the history of photography in the Camonica area. This gives you another cultural focal point alongside the churches.

The route to Lago di Lova

The connection between landscape and memory is also evident on the route from Borno to Lago di Lova: it passes the Cappella di Sedulzo. The chapel was built in 1958 following a vow made by a group of residents from Borno who had been deported. If you include this route in your plans, you will therefore encounter not only a specific destination but also a building with a clear historical reason for its construction.

The summit of Pizzo Camino is located in the vicinity of Borno. When choosing accommodation, you can match these different focal points—the ski station, woodland, route to Lago di Lova and cultural sites—with your preferred travel rhythm. This is helpful if you want to combine nature, winter sports and history as changing interests rather than as one uniform programme.
