War History in Two Museum Names

The Museo della Guerra 1915-18 e dei reperti bellici in Capovalle preserves evidence of wartime events from the First and Second World Wars. The Museo reperti bellici di Capovalle displays artefacts from the First World War, including uniforms, weapons, tools and supplies. This means that Capovalle’s cultural focus is not limited to a single event, but also encompasses various material traces of war history. The Capovalle War Museum can be visited on Sundays in June, July and August, as well as at other times by reservation.

Sacred Sites on Monte Stino

The Chiesetta al Redentore stands on the summit of Monte Stino. It was consecrated on 15 July 1979 after approximately seven months of intensive work. The Santuario del Rio Secco in the mountains of Capovalle offers an older historical connection: it was built at the beginning of the 18th century and expanded in 1906. Frescoes by the Brescian artist Giuseppe Mozzoni are part of the sanctuary’s interior. At Monte Stino and in the mountains of Capovalle, you can therefore encounter different layers of history, from sacred architectural heritage to the events of the 20th century.

Orientation Between Capovalle and Monte Stino

The Rifugio Monte Stino can be reached by car from Capovalle and is located approximately 4.5 km from the town. Monte Stino lies between Lake Idro and Lake Garda; panoramic views can be enjoyed a few minutes from the rifugio. For practical orientation, both the starting point in Capovalle and the location of the rifugio remain important reference points.

Hiking on Trails and Mule Tracks

Monte Stino has well-preserved mule tracks that are suitable for hiking. The ascent to Monte Stino follows Trail 454 and then Trail 456. The Alta Via dei forti also passes through Capovalle. It is part of a route extending across five municipalities: Idro, Treviso Bresciano, Capovalle, Bagolino and Anfo. Anyone wishing to compare different types of hikes will find both specific trails on Monte Stino and a longer route spanning several municipalities. The route also provides its own thematic approach to the landscape and its military-historical character.

A Night Hike with Local Tradition

For more than a decade, the Protezione Civile has organized the Caminada de not. This is a non-competitive night hike with tastings along the trails around Capovalle. The nature of this event differs from an individual daytime excursion: the focus is on walking together at night and enjoying the tastings. For your travel planning, the Caminada de not should therefore primarily be understood as a special combination of hiking trails, local organization and a shared experience, while Trails 454 and 456 and the mule tracks on Monte Stino remain independent hiking options.
