Bussero: Villas, Village Centre and Paths between History and Everyday Life

Historic Village Centre and Early Evidence

The historic centre of Bussero preserves elongated houses, narrow winding streets and entrances to old courtyards. The town’s connection with the medieval Milanese chronicler Gotifredo da Bussero reaches back into literary history: towards the end of the 13th century, he wrote the Liber Notitiae Sanctorum Mediolani.

Several villas complement this historical picture. Villa Radaelli was built in the first half of the 17th century on the north-eastern edge of the old village. The private Oratory of San Francesco is attached to it and is identified in historical accounts with the medieval Church of San Pietro, already mentioned by Gotifredo da Bussero.

Villa Casnati is one of Bussero’s oldest buildings and is located in the historic centre. Its original Italian garden was replaced by an English park in the 19th century. The park entrance is at street level at the intersection of Via Legnani and Via Bossi and is step-free for pedestrians. Villa Casnati can also be reserved for events and celebrations.

Villas, Gardens and Paths

Villa Sioli Legnani also reaches far back into Bussero’s history. The first records of it date from 1619, when it belonged to the Corio family, before passing into the possession of the Sioli Legnani family. In 1723, also thanks to its owner Giuseppe Gorini Corio, it became a well-known meeting place for literary figures of the time, including the brothers Pietro, Alessandro and Carlo Verri. During the changes of the mid-19th century, its Italian garden was transformed into an English garden.

The Parco Agricolo Nord Est provides opportunities for movement through the countryside. It connects the centres of its participating municipalities, including Bussero, through a network of paths marked according to CAI standards. A station on Milan’s M2 metro line adds to local orientation and is one of the practical features you can take into account when planning your stay.

Town Festival, Cuisine and Event Venues

Bussero in Festa has been held since 1996 and takes place every year in October; the town festival reaches its peak on the second Sunday in October. The programme includes cultural initiatives, workshops on active citizenship, family areas and entertainment for children. At the food stalls, you can sample typical products as well as dishes from the local and Italian culinary tradition.
