Melzo Between History, Churches and Nature

Melzo combines historic architecture, ecclesiastical art, cultural events and nature. The town’s history includes Palazzo Trivulzio as well as the Chiesa di Sant’Andrea, the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Stelle and the Chiesa di San Francesco. Palazzo Trivulzio: Building History and Teatro Trivulzio

Palazzo Trivulzio reaches far back into history: its older building core was used as a garrison in the 13th century. From 1499 to 1678, the building was converted into the Trivulzio counts’ country residence. The palazzo is currently home to the Teatro Trivulzio; further events take place there.

Churches and Art-Historical References in Melzo

The Chiesa di Sant’Andrea contains the central fresco Madonna con Bambino, dating from 1524. It has been attributed to Giovanni Agosti Nicola Moietta. In the final years of the 15th century, the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Stelle was already the place of worship of a Carmelite monastery. The Chiesa di San Francesco was built in 1647 under the name “Oratorio dei Vivi e dei Morti”. A restoration of the Chiesa di San Francesco that was described at the time as recent was completed in 2010. Around 1640, the Trivulzio family commissioned the Oratorio di Sant'Antonio as a private oratory. The historical sequence therefore extends from the building core of the palazzo in the 13th century through the religious buildings of the 15th and 17th centuries to the restoration in 2010.

Oasi della Martesana: Nature Area and Visiting Rules

The Oasi della Martesana is a nature area covering more than 30 hectares and is spread across the municipalities of Pozzuolo Martesana and Melzo. The area therefore lies not only in Melzo but also in Pozzuolo Martesana. Visits are possible only when accompanied by or with the permission of volunteers, and only on the days and at the times communicated on the entrance signs or via the website or social media channels. Those interested in nature must therefore plan both accompaniment or permission and the stated days and times for their visit.

Biblioteca Vittorio Sereni and Events

The Biblioteca Vittorio Sereni in Melzo invites visitors to explore its premises and attend events. These include readings, meetings, workshops and evening events.

Parc-Sud Itinerary on Foot or by Bicycle

A Parc-Sud itinerary passes through Melzo and can be completed on foot or by bicycle. Anyone who includes this specific route in their day’s plans can choose between the two modes of transport.
