Offagna: Discover the Rocca, Churches and Wine Culture
Offagna combines a medieval fortress heritage with churches, the Rocca, wine and sweeping views over the surrounding landscape.
Rocca di Offagna and Panoramic Views
The Rocca di Offagna was built between 1454 and 1456 as a defensive stronghold against nearby Osimo. The central keep includes former prison rooms and a terrace at the top of the tower. From there, the view extends from the Apennines to the Riviera del Conero. The Rocca has positions for bombards along the Camminamento di Ronda.
Churches from Different Periods
The Chiesa del Santissimo Sacramento was rebuilt between 1787 and 1791 by Andrea Vici on an existing 16th-century structure. Behind the main altar, it houses a large painting of the Last Supper. The Chiesa di San Tommaso Apostolo was built between 1666 and 1675; its altarpiece depicts San Bernardino handing Offagna over to the Madonna.
The Chiesa di Santa Lucia was built in 1372 and rebuilt in 1674 by the Confraternita di Santa Lucia. It contains a wooden crucifix from the 17th century. Together, the three churches span several centuries and showcase different aspects of sacred art and architectural history.
Museums Covering Military History and Natural History
The Museo della Liberazione di Ancona documents the cooperation between Polish soldiers, partisans and the local civilian population during the liberation of Ancona. It presents photographic and war-related documentation on the conflict, the suffering and the advance of the Allies. The Museo di Scienze Naturali „Luigi Paolucci“ preserves paleontological, mineralogical, zoological and botanical collections, many of which were personally assembled by Luigi Paolucci.
Villa Malacari and Local Wine Culture
Villa Malacari was built in 1668 by Andrea Malacari. The villa houses a historic wine cellar where Malacari wines are produced. Villa Malacari also offers tastings of its organic wines with typical local products, as well as tours of the historic wine cellars. This focus makes the villa interesting for visitors who want to experience architecture and regional wine culture together.
The Feste Medievali di Offagna
During the last week of July, the Feste Medievali di Offagna bring the town’s streets and squares to life with medieval exhibitions, taverns, performances and historical re-enactments. If you choose this period for your trip, the event will be one of the defining cultural highlights of your stay.
