Discover Castel di Lama: Art, Museums and Festivals
Art and Archaeology in Castel di Lama
Castel di Lama combines contemporary art with archaeological and historical themes. The contemporary art collection “Arte On” was established in 2001 in part of the former Sacet complex in Castel di Lama. The Deposito Archeologico Comunale offers a different way to explore the past: archaeological material is displayed in 22 display cases distributed across two underground rooms owned by the municipality. Castel di Lama therefore places both modern art and archaeological evidence at the center of its cultural offerings.
Festivals with a Local Character
Several annual or traditionally recurring events give the town a strong focus on festivals and events. The Fiera del Santissimo Crocifisso traditionally takes place between the end of August and the beginning of September on the plain near the municipal cemetery between Piattoni and Contrada Forcella. It is primarily an agricultural and pastoral exhibition. The patronal festival of Castel di Lama, held in honor of Saint Athanasius, takes place every year on May 2; the municipality invites the entire community to participate.
On the first Saturday in September, the historical reenactment “Insediamento del Podestà e Palio della Balestra” follows. It recreates the appointment of the Podestà and the Massari, followed by a crossbow tournament. Those who visit Castel di Lama for a specific event can therefore experience the town from different perspectives: the Fiera has an agricultural and pastoral focus, while the patronal festival and the historical reenactment show other facets of the local annual calendar.
Historical Traces and Architecture
Individual stories of buildings and gardens also add to the picture. Vincenzo Carfratelli Seghetti had a French-style garden laid out for the former Villa Odoardi. Construction of the Church of Santa Maria in Mignano began in 1506. Both references place Castel di Lama and its surroundings within a history ranging from representational design to sacred architecture.

For planning purposes, it is useful to distinguish them as nearby destinations from the landscape sites located farther away in the wider region.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Travel Interests
If you are looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Castel di Lama, you can align your preferred focus with the travel dates and themes. May 2, the period between the end of August and the beginning of September, and the first Saturday in September represent different cultural and festive occasions. Outside these dates, the “Arte On” collection, the archaeological Deposito, the historic church and the nearby destinations provide starting points for a customized trip. The beaches in the wider regional area complement this selection as independent landscape destinations.
