Uscerno between the Fluvione and Chestnut Groves

Uscerno is a hamlet of the municipality of Montegallo in the Marche and lies along the Fluvione. Its character emerges from the combination of river landscapes, chestnut groves, small caves and architectural details on many of the houses. This gives you a destination where nature, trails and local culture can be experienced in different ways.

Landscape and Circular Tours

Chestnut groves are part of Uscerno’s natural landscape; small caves are also among the area’s natural features. This combination gives the surroundings a varied character, ranging from wooded sections to distinctive landforms. Those who like to plan their days around specific landscape impressions will find several themes here that can be explored independently.

A central route is the recommended circular tour “Anello Uscerno Lago di Gerosa”. It begins in the small centre of Uscerno, a hamlet of the municipality of Montegallo, and follows a paved road towards Abetito to its highest point at an elevation of 970 metres. For the most part, the route passes through well-maintained and particularly impressive chestnut groves to the Cascata di Arena, which is fed by the Torrente Fluvione.

For a cycling excursion, Percorso 2a of the CAI-Itinerario MTB 2 is also relevant. It runs via Ponte Paoletti, Bovecchia, Pescolla, Gaico, Meschia, Abetito and Uscerno before returning to Ponte Paoletti.

Rural Culture and Religious Buildings

The Museo della civiltà contadina “Stefano Cardarelli” is located in the Uscerno district of the Marche, near “Le Casette”. It contains a small collection of tools from the rural culture traditionally widespread in the Monti Sibillini area. A visit to the museum therefore focuses on working tools and a rural cultural landscape that has a tangible presence in Uscerno.

The religious buildings also provide their own historical highlights. The Oratorio della Madonna del Carmine in Uscerno was renovated in the 17th century. According to an inscription carved into a stone ashlar, the Church of San Savino is said to date back to 1568. Interesting architectural details can also be seen on many houses in Uscerno, so the cultural character of the village is not limited to individual churches.

Orientation and Travel Planning

A clear landmark is the Mulino di Uscerno: it is located immediately behind the Roman bridge and is enclosed by a tall grille. The close relationship between the bridge and the mill is one of the distinctive features of the village view and can be taken into account when finding your way around Uscerno.

An annual event is also part of the local scene: the Sagra della Castagna takes place in Uscerno on the third Sunday in October. By car, you can reach Uscerno via the Strada Provinciale n. 89 Valfluvione. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether your travel plans should focus on the circular tour, the MTB route, the natural features, the religious buildings or the rural museum.
