Medieval and Roman traces, churches, sacred art and paintings in Altidona

The medieval walls of Altidona are well preserved. A medieval watchtower in Altidona overlooks the Aso Valley. A Roman cistern is located in the former Contrada Barbolano. Villa Montana features Roman remains dating from the time of the Punic Wars.

The Church of SS. Maria e Ciriaco was built in 1767. Inside, there is a painting attributed to Vincenzo Pagani depicting the Madonna and Child, two saints and a patron saint. The church also features a polyptych attributed to Cortese. On the hill of Altidona stands the Church of Santa Maria di Loreto, offering panoramic views. It houses sacred art, including an icon of the Virgin Mary.

Another cultural venue is the Fototeca Provinciale di Fermo on Via Bertacchini in Altidona. It displays images documenting the history of Fermo and its surroundings.

Events throughout the year: literary series, book presentations, carnival, music and theatre in Altidona

The feast of the patron saint San Ciriaco is celebrated in Altidona on 8 August. Every summer, the literary series Terrazza Vista Mare brings authors, readers and culture enthusiasts together in the historic centre and at particularly attractive locations in Altidona. The programme includes book presentations and conversations with authors. The Carnevale Altidonese features parades of allegorical floats, masked groups and music. The series is not limited to a single venue.

For 2026, the theatre season “Altidona a teatro” has been announced. At the Teatro Comunale, it comprises eight performances featuring comedy, poetry, music and theatre focused on social engagement.

Coast, beach, cycling paths and the Parco dei Due Ponti

The beach in the Marina di Altidona district is approximately 3 kilometres long. Cyclists can ride 3 kilometres along the Altidona coast or travel along the Aso River. A cycle path connects the Parco dei Due Ponti with the beach. The park has green spaces and play areas. The “Dal Mare a Lapedona, Altidona” circular cycling route starts in Marina di Altidona. When planning a day by the sea or on a bicycle, the approximately 3 kilometres of beach and the 3 kilometres along the coast define a limited spatial area. Along the Aso River, a further stretch remains available as a separate option.

Local festival culture in Altidona: Sagra, polenta and fixed August dates throughout the year

The Sagra della Polenta con le Lumache has been held since 1974 and takes place every year on the first weekend of August. Its date therefore falls in the same August as the feast of the patron saint San Ciriaco.
