Auditore lies on a rocky spur above the Foglia Valley. The difference in elevation on this rocky spur is approximately 100 metres. Its location already leads into a landscape where local history, defensive architecture, and places of remembrance are closely connected with the experiences of a visit. For travellers who want to discover Italy through more than its well-known major cities, Auditore offers a clear focus on cultural history.

Discover the historic village

The historic village of Auditore is still surrounded by intact defensive walls. The historic centre also preserves angular bastions and a hexagonal civic tower from the 15th century. A visit to the village can begin with a walk along the old walls surrounding the historic village. This allows visitors to explore the site through its visible structures before individual buildings and historical connections take centre stage.

The history of the place reaches far back. The Church of the Holy Spirit in Auditore, together with the castle, is already attributed to the 12th century. The parish church lies immediately outside the walls; it houses Mariano Medici's painting “La Pentecoste” from 1772. In the late Middle Ages, Auditore passed from the direct rule of the Malatesta of Rimini to the Counts Ridolfi.

The Gothic Line and the museum in Casinina

The events of 1944 are also part of the history of the area: part of the territory of Auditore was incorporated into the Gothic Line by the Germans. The Museo Storico della Linea Gotica is located in the nearby village of Casinina. It is the first and most important historical museum dedicated to the 20th century in central Italy, and displays thousands of artefacts, documents, photographs, uniforms, and military vehicles from the battlefields of the Gothic Line.

The museum includes the Parco della Memoria, with outdoor exhibitions and monuments. During certain seasons, guided tours are offered of the original Gothic Line bunker, which has been restored and is maintained by the museum operator. If you are interested in military history, regional remembrance culture, or historical documents, this visit combines indoor spaces, outdoor grounds, and a specific site of the Gothic Line.

Routes and special places

Auditore is a stop on the Francesco di Giorgio Martini itinerary. The historic area also includes Castelnuovo, a former fortified village that is now almost entirely uninhabited, but rich in history and interesting to visit. From the centre of Casinina, Auditore can be reached via the signposted route after approximately 3 kilometres. This connection makes Casinina an important point of reference when visiting the two places, without mixing up their different historical focal points.

A local occasion and year-round discovery

The Pro Loco Auditore Casinina organises the Festa della Bistecca Marchigiana certificata. For travel planning, this occasion can be considered together with the area's cultural and historical destinations. The “caccia alle Meraviglie” is available during the 1000curve races and throughout the year. In this way, in addition to walls, churches, and museums, Auditore offers another reason to explore the place with your own curiosity.

If you are considering accommodation in Auditore, you can make your personal focus the deciding factor: the historic village, the church and walls, the museum in Casinina, or the Francesco di Giorgio Martini itinerary. This keeps your choice of stay centred on the experiences that particularly interest you in this historic landscape.
