Cavatore: The Historic Tower and Panorama Trail

Cavatore is a medieval hilltop village between the Erro Valley and the valley of the Torrente Visone. Tower and Romanesque Art

The Torre di Cavatore is the oldest tower in the area. The square keep has three openings and gives the village a clearly recognizable historic landmark. Together with the churches, it forms a cultural focus that is particularly suitable for travellers who want to get to know smaller Italian towns through their architecture and history.

The Chiesa del Cimitero has been recognized by the heritage authority as a rare example of the purest Piedmontese Romanesque style. Paintings from the second half of the 15th century have been preserved in the apse basin. This brings together two aspects worth seeing in one church building: Romanesque forms and the later painted decoration.

The Chiesa di San Rocco is an oratory whose construction began around 1783 and was completed in 1835. The Chiesa di San Lorenzo lies outside Cavatore's main settlement area on a road leading to the former defensive centre of the bishops of Acqui Terme. Both places broaden the view beyond the village centre and reveal different historical connections within the municipality.

Ridges and Trails

The Sentiero Acqui Terme–Cavatore runs along a panoramic ridge. In clear weather, the view extends from the Monte Rosa group to Monviso. Cavatore can also be reached from the hamlets of Lussito and Ovrano.

The trail Sentiero Valle Croce–Cavatore passes through the historic streets of Cavatore to the town hall. Sentiero 537 to Acqui Terme begins at the town hall. A short variant connects trail 531 from Acqui Terme to Tiglieto with trail 537 from Acqui Terme to Cavatore. This creates the 14.68 km route Anello delle Ginestre, starting and ending in Acqui, Zona Bagni.

Hiking Experiences Around Cavatore

The 21st edition of the hike Da 'n bric a 'n 'oter was also organized by the cultural association Torre di Cavau O.D.V. The approximately 7 km route passes through the hills around Cavatore and ends with a lunch by reservation. The different route formats help you balance cultural sightseeing and physical activity according to your own pace of travel, without reducing Cavatore to just one attraction.
