Quargnento: Basilica, Art and Countryside Paths

Quargnento combines sacred art, Roman traces and rural paths with views of the hills. The Basilica of San Dalmazio was elevated to the status of a basilica in 1992 for historical, artistic and spiritual reasons, and preserves a polyptych by Gandolfino da Roreto. The Allegrezze is an annual religious ceremony in honour of the Madonna del Rosario. This makes it a place where architecture, religious tradition and local history stand closely side by side for you to discover.

Roman Traces and Religious Tradition

The Roman origins of Quargnento are evidenced by archaeological finds, including a Roman funerary stele mentioning the gens Posilla. The history of the town therefore extends beyond its later ecclesiastical and artistic evidence into Roman times. When planning a culture-focused day, you can take Roman archaeology, sacred art and the connection to Carlo CarrĂ  into account in Quargnento.

Art in the Town and Historic Sites

Art history is also present in several locations. Villa Cuttica di Cassine was built in 1763 as the country residence of Marquis Cesare Cuttica di Cassine. The Carlo Carrà art trail brings back to life places associated with the painter Carlo Carrà, who was born in Quargnento. The Percorsi dell’Arte dedicated to Carlo Carrà consist of ten lithographs displayed on easels at various locations around the town. The trail distributes the art experience across several points in the town. The lithographs are thereby connected to the places associated with Carlo Carrà. This allows you to encounter works of art not only in a single interior space.

Monferrato, Paths and Views

Geologically, part of the Quargnento area already belongs to Monferrato. In Quargnento, you can take walks along green rural paths; the area also offers panoramic views of the hills. This combination is ideal for planning a trip that gives equal consideration to culture and walking, without limiting the town to just one type of experience. The different sites and the paths through the countryside allow you to alternate between focused appreciation and time outdoors. Green paths and panoramic views of the hills complement the historic stops. This alternation can be taken into account when planning your day.

A Festival with Aubergines Announced

A culinary aspect is represented by a festival announced for 2026. The 20th Sagra della Melanzana was announced for the period from 28 August to 30 August 2026 at Parco “Coubon”. The menu planned for the festival included parmigiana, caponata, grilled aubergines with chilli, pasta alla Norma and agnolotti. Alongside the religious ceremony, the Sagra points to another form of local tradition, this time centred on communal dining and the aubergine as the focus of the menu.
