Discover Argentera: Mountains, Culture and Hiking Trails

Argentera combines alpine landscapes with a cultural history reflected in the churches and the priory of Bersezio, as well as in the Mizoun dal Countrabandìer museum trail in Ferrere. There is also the easy Sentiero dell'Amore loop trail, more challenging mountain routes and the Stazione sciistica di Argentera ski resort.

Culture between Bersezio and Ferrere

In Bersezio, the parish church of San Lorenzo preserves a Roman marble tablet featuring a bas-relief of two warriors. The parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo houses a 15th-century crucifix that is particularly revered by the local population. Both churches offer insight into the area's religiously shaped history.

The San Lorenzo priory in Bersezio provides another historical point of reference. It was founded around the year 1000 by monks from San Teofredo di Le Puy. In the hamlet of Ferrere, the Mizoun dal Countrabandìer museum trail is dedicated to the old and traditional practice of smuggling.

The Mizoun dal Countrabandìer also includes a characteristic alpine dwelling with a kitchen, bedroom and a large room called the Soulìer, which has a wooden gallery. Seasonal access is available using keys collected from the Rifugio Becchi Rossi in Ferrere; it is intended for summer use.

Hiking trails with different profiles

For a short excursion, the Sentiero dell'Amore from Bersezio is a good option. The easy loop trail is 2.948 kilometres long. Walking time is approximately 45 to 50 minutes. Its manageable length makes it a small, self-contained hike within the Argentera experience.

The Bersezio–Bassa di Terra Rossa–Lago Oserot and Argentera–Lago superiore di Roburent–Colle di Roburent routes are more challenging. The first route is 9.926 kilometres long and is classified as difficulty E; it passes through larch forests, scree slopes and alpine meadows to Lago Oserot. The second route is 13.510 kilometres long, is also rated difficulty E and leads into the Vallone di Roburent with several successive lakes.

The Bersezio–Ferrere stage of La Routo also leads from Bersezio over high-altitude alpine pastures to Ferrere. Along this route lies the Gias di Colombart alpine estate, home to wild animals and plants as well as several endemic species. The different route lengths and landscapes help you adapt your hiking plans to the available time and your preferred tour profile.

Winter sports and practical information

In winter, the Stazione sciistica di Argentera is another focal point. The ski resort spans an elevation difference of around 1,000 metres, from 1,600 to 2,600 metres above sea level. For motorhome travellers, Argentera's municipal motorhome parking area is located at Piazzale Corpo degli Alpini.
