Bossolasco: Rose Avenue, mountain views and historic paths

Bossolasco combines its historic town center with a Rose Avenue, historic buildings and paths leading into the countryside. Located in the historic town center is the Parco delle rose rare e antiche: a tree-lined avenue recommended to visitors to Bossolasco as a pleasant walk. The park is also called Viale della Rimembranza because it is dedicated to those who fell in the First World War.

Town Center and Historic Buildings

Access to the old town center is via Piazza Ragazzi del ’99, which was known as Piazzetta di San Cristoforo until the last century. The older architectural history includes the parish church of San Giovanni Battista, dedicated to the patron saint of Bossolasco; the first records of it date from 1327. Its stone bell tower was built between 1462 and 1464 and is the only surviving part of the former church. Palazzo Balestrino Marchesi del Carretto was built between 1664 and 1667 and remains an imposing building to this day; in Bossolasco it is also known as the Palazzone. The bell tower and the Palazzone therefore belong to two different periods of construction in Bossolasco’s history.

Views and Paths into the Countryside

At 802 meters, Località Bicocca is the highest point in Bossolasco and offers views of the Belbo Valley, Monviso and the Monte Rosa massif. From Pian della Croce, a staircase or an uphill cycle path leads to Colle della Resistenza.

GTL Stage 08 from Murazzano to Bossolasco is also a hiking section on the Strade dei Formaggi. The stage follows the ridge road of Passo della Bossola, considered one of the most scenic sections in the entire area. It reaches Bossolasco at the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli; from there, it continues into the town center. The hike from Bossolasco to Serravalle Langhe can begin at the parking areas along Circonvallazione Giacinto Bauzano. The short climb along Via del Castello leads directly into the center. On the way from Bossolasco to Serravalle Langhe, the route enters a pleasant, cool stretch of woodland.

Art and Festivals Throughout the Year

Senté d’Art brings changing works of art and permanent installations to the woods around Bossolasco. The Festa delle Rose takes place every year on the first Sunday in June. On the third Sunday in October, Bossolasco holds a Castagnata; artisans and stalls selling typical products gather in the historic streets and squares. At the Cappella di S. Rocco, a novena is held in May and a torchlight procession takes place on September 8 on the occasion of the Festa della Madonna.
