Cuneo combines historic squares, museums and sacred art with excursions and cycle tours in the area surrounding the city. At the Museo Civico, tours range from the earliest evidence of prehistoric times through to the modern era, providing visitors with an understanding of the history of the area. The 52-metre-high Torre Civica is a striking landmark in the historic centre. From its belfry, you can look out over the city's rooftops and squares towards the gentle hills of the Langhe and across the mountains as far as Monte Rosa.

Squares, Houses and Museums in the Historic Centre

Piazza Galimberti is one of the largest squares in Piedmont and is surrounded by ten elegant arcaded buildings. On this piazza, on the second floor of Palazzo Osasco at Piazza Galimberti 6, you will find the Museo Casa Galimberti. It presents the history of the Galimberti family during the transition from the 19th to the 20th century. Its rooms contain works by Lorenzo Delleani, Giacomo Grosso, Matteo Olivero, Bistolfi and Godet.

The Museo Diocesano is located in Contrada Mondovì in the historic centre of Cuneo. The street is a quiet pedestrian zone with arcades and shops. At the same time, its history recalls an earlier period in the city's life: Contrada Mondovì was the site of a Jewish ghetto from the 15th century onwards and is now a pedestrian zone. The museum is designed for self-guided visits; information panels, detailed captions and films support exploration.

The Museo Diocesano's exhibition focuses almost entirely on works from the San Sebastiano complex. The Chiesa di San Sebastiano is considered the only surviving example in Cuneo of architecture from the rebuilding period beginning in 1595.

Sacred Art and Theatre History

The Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Bosco is traditionally associated with the founding of Cuneo. The cathedral contains an altarpiece by Andrea Pozzo dating from 1685. It depicts Mary with the infant Jesus, Saint Michael and John the Baptist. Another insight into the city's earlier history can be found beside the Santuario della Madonna degli Angeli: during restoration work in the 1990s, a medieval room with a 15th-century fresco cycle was uncovered there, attributed to the Biasacci brothers from Busca.

The Teatro Toselli is also one of the city's historic cultural venues. It is a theatre in the Italian style with 580 seats. The Teatro Toselli institution was founded in 1803 by 39 citizens in agreement with the city administration. This gives you a cultural picture of Cuneo that consists not only of museums, but also of squares, sacred buildings and an established theatre tradition.

Cycling, Walks and Routes into the Countryside

Parco Fluviale Gesso e Stura surrounds Cuneo and is suitable for excursions and cycle tours. A panoramic lift connects the historic centre with the park's equipped areas and can also be used by cyclists. The scale of the cycle network is also useful for individual planning: Cuneo has 27 kilometres of urban cycle paths and 742 kilometres of cycle tourism routes.

Another way to experience the city is along the Viale degli Angeli, which is just under three kilometres long. It is a destination for Cuneo residents' Sunday walks. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether you would primarily like to combine your stay with museums and historic squares or with excursions, cycle tours and walks. The Ufficio Turistico IAT di Cuneo provides free maps and brochures for this purpose.

Local Character

The Fiera Nazionale del Marrone is also part of Cuneo's public identity. It reached its 26th edition in 2025 and has placed the Marrone sweet chestnut at its centre since 1936.

More places for planning your trip: Camerana, Serralunga D’alba, Marene, Isasca, Trezzo Tinella, Centallo, Revello and San Chiaffredo.
