Discover Sinio: Local History, Vineyards and Hiking Trails
Sinio lies at the heart of a small valley on the Torrente Talloria. The slopes are characterised by vineyards and hazelnut groves. There are also fields and other cultivated land. The historic town centre has a medieval, orthogonal settlement structure in the shape of a coat of arms.
Local History, Theatre and Art
The former Oratorio della SS Annunziata is popularly known as Chiesa dei Battuti and has been converted into a theatre. Theatre series and events are organised at Il Nostro Teatro di Sinio. The Monumento Mastroianni is located on the outer wall of Castello di Sinio. The work was created by Umberto Mastroianni, who donated it to Sinio in 1975.
The Cappella di San Sebastiano was built from 1631 onwards as a religious building next to a hospital. Construction continued over the following decades. During the Notte delle masche, stories about local witches, the “storie di masche”, are performed every year on 14 August.
Hiking Through Hills, Forests and Calanchi
For hikers, the Strada-Romantica route near Sinio is moderately difficult, approximately 7 km long and designed as a circular route from Teatro di Sinio back to Teatro di Sinio. The total ascent and descent amount to approximately 240 m. The circular route leads from Teatro di Sinio back to Teatro di Sinio, keeping the start and finish in the same place. The approximate length and total elevation change provide the framework for planning the circuit.
The Sinio stage of the Strada Romantica also includes an extensive viewpoint outside the town area in the direction of Montelupo. Sinio is a stage of the Bar-to-Bar hiking trail through the hills of Barbaresco, Alta Langa and Barolo. Sentiero 302 leads through forests and the erosion landscapes typical of the Langhe, the Calanchi, back to Sinio.
For experienced cyclists, the Roddino–Sinio–Montelupo–Sinio–Serralunga MTB section is recommended. The route leads from Roddino via Sinio and Montelupo back to Sinio and then on to Serralunga. The route formats therefore differ specifically: the hike returns to Teatro di Sinio, Sentiero 302 returns to Sinio, while the MTB route continues as far as Serralunga.
Wine and Nocciola Piemonte
In various wineries and agriturismi in Sinio, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo d’Alba are produced and offered for tasting as DOC wines, while Alta Langa is produced and offered for tasting as a DOCG wine. Farms also offer confectionery made from Nocciola Piemonte IGP for tasting and purchase. For this confectionery, purchase is therefore possible in addition to tasting.
