Between Festive Traditions and Mediterranean Landscapes

In Sarroch, festive traditions, sacred art, Nuragic history and the Mediterranean landscape offer distinct reasons to visit. If you would like to plan your stay around a fixed cultural date, the Festa di Sant’Efisio is a notable point of reference: it takes place every year between 1 and 4 May and passes through Sarroch. On 1 May, the procession of Sant’Efisio reaches the Church of Santa Vittoria, stays there overnight and continues to Pula the following morning.

Historic Sites and Sacred Heritage

Historic sites include Villa Siotto, a mansion dating from the early 20th century. The villa was formerly a fully operational agricultural estate, producing large quantities of olive oil and wine as well as a wide variety of fruit. Nuraghe Antigori is a fortified Nuragic citadel on a hill 3 km north of Sarroch, opposite SARAS.

The new parish church of Santa Vittoria preserves an 18th-century reliquary and a 19th-century Lignum Crucis. Both come from the former parish church; parts of the church silverware and several wooden statues have also been preserved. On 30 and 31 May, Sarroch took part in the Monumenti Aperti event for the third consecutive time. The Mercatini del Borgo were held for the fifth consecutive time in the districts of Perd’e Sali and Porto Columbu.

Mediterranean Scrub, Waterfowl and Summer Events

The Parco Pubblico also represents the landscape of the town. It covers 3.20 hectares of Mediterranean scrub. Numerous waterfowl live in its artificial pond. In summer, the amphitheatre hosts cultural, theatrical and film events. Nature observation and cultural programming therefore come together closely in one specific place.

Routes for Different Day Plans

Nuraghe Sa Domu e s’Orcu can be reached from Sarroch via a signposted route and an approximately 300 m-long footpath. A historic and nature trail that can be walked year-round leads from the courtyard of Villa Siotto through its park to Nuraghe Sa Domu e s’Orcu, then along the paths of the Sa Punta hills, with wide views over the Golfo degli Angeli, to Torre del Diavolo. This ancient coastal tower, dating from the 17th century, stands steeply above the sea.

Another route is Sa Marcialonga: the approximately 12.5 km-long trail runs from the centre of Sarroch to Procileddu in the heart of the Parco di Gutturu Mannu.

The routes differ in terms of day planning: access to the Nuraghe includes an approximately 300 m-long footpath, while Sa Marcialonga extends for about 12.5 km. Anyone visiting the Nuraghe as a single destination will therefore need to plan a different amount of time than for the longer route to Procileddu in the Parco di Gutturu Mannu.
