Portu Maga: Coast, Sea and Trails on the Costa Verde

Portu Maga is centrally located on the Costa Verde and combines a three-kilometre-long coastline with a marine environment rich in fish, molluscs and marine flora. The town lies on the slopes of hills facing the sea, offering views of panoramas and sunsets. S’Omu e s’Orku and Early Coastal History

S’Omu e s’Orku is a collapsed rock shelter near Portu Maga. The site has a Mesolithic stratigraphic sequence dating from 9,200 to 7,800 cal BP.

A now-submerged coastal palaeolandscape approximately 9,000 years old has also been reconstructed at S’Omu e S’Orku in Portu Maga. This creates a tangible connection between today’s marine environment and a landscape that existed during an earlier phase of coastal history.
