Galtellì between Mountain Landscapes and Living Traditions
Galtellì combines landscapes, sacred history and regional traditions. Monte Tuttavista is located nearby. Sa Preda Istampada, a natural landmark at an altitude of 635 metres, lies on this mountain. It consists of a 40-metre-wide opening in a rock face created by wind and rain.
Castello di Pontes provides a clear point of reference: when approaching from Nuoro via the SS 129 towards Orosei, the ruins can be seen on the right-hand side before reaching the town of Galtellì. Restoration work uncovered parts of the surrounding wall, an outer defensive structure, a corner tower and several partially underground cisterns.

Churches, Pilgrimage Traditions and Music
The San Pietro complex comprises a bell tower and two medieval churches. One of these churches was left unfinished. The complex corresponds to the former cathedral of the Diocese of Galtellì. Another focal point is the Church of Santissimo Crocifisso. It is a pilgrimage destination because it preserves a revered wooden Christ. The wooden crucifix dates from 1300. According to legend, this Christ is said to have sweated blood and performed numerous miracles between 1612 and 1667. Pilgrims come for this from all over Sardinia.
In Galtellì, Sos Tenores – Canto a Tenore – is still frequently performed in almost spontaneous gatherings; it is an art form recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
Museums of Crafts, Agriculture and Archaeology
The Sa Domo 'e sos Marras Museum is housed in a restored, two-storey manor house dating from the 18th century. The museum preserves machines and tools used in agriculture and livestock farming. Exhibits include a horizontal wooden loom and a wine press for grape pomace.
The opening hours of the Sa Domo 'e sos Marras Museum vary by season: in autumn and winter, visits are scheduled from Tuesday to Sunday between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. In spring and summer, opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
The surrounding area of Galtellì is also home to the Dorgali Parco Museo S'Abba Frisca Museum, the Angelo Monne Museum and the Dorgali Archaeological Museum. The Nuraghe Codula Manna archaeological site is also located nearby.
Beaches and Sardinian Cuisine
The beaches of Spiaggia di Su Barone, Cala Osalla di Dorgali and Spiaggia Cala Cartoe are located near Galtellì.
A distinctive local tradition can be seen on Maundy Thursday in the brotherhood tradition. In Galtellì, sa Corona is eaten then: a round loaf of bread with a large cross in the centre and numerous artichokes around the sides.
