Posada Between Nature and Coastline
Posada is a suitable destination for a trip to Sardinia if you would like to combine river landscapes, coastline and the town’s long-established history. The municipality is one of the four municipalities that make up the Tepilora Regional Nature Park, which extends across almost 8,000 hectares of forests, paths, springs and waterways. For you, this means a landscape in which nature experiences and sightseeing can offer different focuses, without Posada being limited to just one type of trip.

Rio Posada and Wetlands
The distinctive shape of the landscape is particularly tangible along the Rio Posada: the river has a meandering form unique in Sardinia and is a destination for canoeists and birdwatchers. The official kayaking excursion on the Rio Posada lasts approximately three hours. In addition, CEAS organises nature-study observations on the Rio Posada during a canoe trip. The activities therefore appeal both to people who would like to be on the water and to visitors who want to observe the river with an expert eye.
The coastal and wetland areas broaden the range of experiences as well. The Stagni Longu e Tundu wetlands and the nearby dune system are suitable for nature photography and birdwatching. San Giovanni di Posada lies on a long white beach beside a pine forest; windsurfing and kitesurfing are possible along its coast. Su Tiriarzu is a long sandy beach just a few steps from Posada’s historic centre. These geographical connections are helpful for planning: the historic centre, beaches, river and coastal activities each represent a distinct focus.
Historic Centre and Castello della Fava
In Posada’s historic centre, you can walk through cobbled lanes and along colourful walls; buildings with medieval architectural structures have also been preserved there. The elevated Castello della Fava was able to control the surrounding plain, the mouth of the Rio Posada and a wide section of Sardinia’s east coast. The surviving keep is approximately 20 metres high and contains cisterns, storage rooms and stables. Castello della Fava also includes exhibition areas.
Cycle Paths and Accommodation Location
For getting around locally, Posada has approximately 7 kilometres of cycle paths. They connect the historic centre at Piazza Coghe Fae with access to the sea at Su Tiriarzu and the harbour. When choosing a hotel or other accommodation in Posada, you can therefore first decide whether the town centre, coast, river or nature-oriented activities should be the main focus. This allows you to choose the location according to the experiences you particularly want to include during your stay, without conflating the character of the individual areas.
Celebrations in January
In mid-January, Posada holds celebrations in honour of Saint Anthony the Abbot. They include large bonfires, processions and tastings of sweet specialities such as Cogoneddos and Aranzada. If you travel at this time, a local festival is therefore another possible focus of your stay alongside nature, water and medieval architecture.
